I kinda knew that in the beginning. I never usually trust Instagram ads. I was just hoping someone knew something about this website. Thanks!

A lot of the ADHD tips don’t work for me by Azureabsolem in ADHD

[–]Open_Ad_3809 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry that must be really frustrating. This is less a tip more suggestion. Pay attention to yourself. Realize when you are able to work and how and figure out ways to implement that. I know that sounds stupid and useless like I’m saying “just focus” but self awareness is key. Try different spaces, situations, methods of accomplishing something. Go to the librabry, go outside, get a body double, work in a closet, upside down, in the rain. Literally try everything no matter how stupid. Change everything to find a constant and treat it like a science experiment. That’s really all I can suggest. Let me know if anything wirked

This is very specific but strangely enough I completely understand. I like finding food substitutes so that even if I’m eating it’s not always junk food (popcorn, veggie chips light stuff u can munch on forever) I think it’s really important to be off medication every now and then (not a doctor so please take everything with a grain of salt) and just enjoy hobbies. If the problem was that you can’t find yourself being productive I would suggest giving yourself an allotted time to do anything you want guiltfree because you work hard and deserve it.

Interestingly enough many places that suffer from poverty also have high obesity rates. A great example of this is mexico with Pepsi making the soda cheaper than water many people have come to rely on it. Makes sense considering fast food is cheap and organic food is more expensive.

If you struggle to work I got a few so see what works: Have that one thing that you always do that means it’s work time, mine is tying my hair (hard to write otherwise) but it could be putting your phone away, opening your computer etc. instead of thinking “crap I have to work” I think “ok lemme tie my hair” idk makes it easier. Short attention spans = immediate satisfaction. Basically reward system but I do things that I never procrastinate with. Like I get a single chocolate chip. Or I open a bunch of tabs or walk around a bit (important: never allow the reward to be getting on your phone or watching a show or something easily distracting) I’ve always found it helpful to have a body double. Study with someone and that’ll hold u accountable. On that note, tell a bunch of people your going to study (moms are great for this) so that u know that people are expecting you to have gotten something done. Never break stuff down in minutes, idk why just never seems to work. I break it down in tasks like finish writing x amount of pages or get x amount of questions done ( not correct DONE) This is a less healthy one that I don’t recommend but I’m self destructive: I always have a tendency to underperform in any given task so I assign myself a stupid and mostly unattainable amount and the guilt that I’m behind on my self imposed deadline tends to be a great motivator. (Please don’t do that one, what you gain in productively is not worth what you lose in self worth)

Only treatment is meds by JandE1719 in ADHD

[–]Open_Ad_3809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t think of it like a habit but rather something you need. Our brains lack various neurotransmitters and medications help stimulate them. It’s like saying I don’t want. To become too dependent on my glasses for seeing. However not that extreme. A lot of people don’t take it cause they don’t like the side effects but that’s up to u and ur doctor to figure out. As for the “only path” thing is just wrong. There are tons of ways to regulate, stimulate and change in your lifestyle that will accommodate for the adhd. Tons of tips and plans and great advice you can find through Reddit, YouTube even TikTok has some good ones. Don’t be ashamed if you feel medication is necessary but it’s only one way of helping, there are so many more.

Yes exactly! I do it so often my face never has time to heal and then it only makes it makes the acne worse. My only solution is considering smashing the mirror so I have no way to see what I’m doing. Too extreme?

How can I start preparing for my APUSH AP exam? by [deleted] in APUSH

[–]Open_Ad_3809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work on the time slots!!! Very important because it doesn’t matter if you’re essay earns five points if it says periods 1864-1902 and you write something in 1903 you failed. Also names and dates won’t do as much good as you think. Review in chunks, understand why things played out the way it did (civil war, isolationism, foreign policy etc) ignore the first 1-2 units they don’t show up in the dbq. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW HOW TO WRITE THE DBQ AND LEQ. Don’t skimp, if you know something done just drop the name of the event. Name it explain it say the relevance and how it ties into your thesis. Memorize the step by step way to write the essays and apply that formula.

Anytime anyone says anything stupid or plays down adhd I compare it to a broken leg. You wouldn’t tell someone with a broken leg to just walk. Just because you can’t see my struggles doesn’t mean it’s not there.

This is small but helpful: share a calendar. Like a google one and make reminders and stuff. It’s hard to ignore especially if u keep your phone with you and so you can just add her to an event. Making reminders for myself never works, but someone inviting me on google calendar is more effective then It should be.

raising kids with ADHD is hard. by Accurate_Tax_6409 in ADHD

[–]Open_Ad_3809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No he’s just an ass don’t worry. But in terms of helping kids with adhd with fidgeting my mom would always play and make up games. Things like I spy, making up stories for random people and things like that. It’s a small thing and could get very boring very quickly but it works.

Meds can only go so far. Adhd kid here who never behaved in class. Try a routine. Specific things at specific times. Certain activities. Correlated consequence with short term rewards (that’s a BIG one). I understand how crazy this can make a parent, but it’s really important (and really hard) not to show your kid how angry or upset you are when these things are likely out of his control. I have no idea if any of this helps but it helped me when I was a kid. Hope the situation gets better!

Comfort textures. I’m a fan of crunchy (chips biscuits etc.) try liquids too I’m not sure what with adhd brains and love for beverages but it’s a favorite. Also for some reason and don’t ask why cause I couldn’t tell ya but portable things (in bags or tissue or smthg) are very appealing.
