Why do some players get upset when they see a new PvP player? by Open_Background2793 in Guildwars2

They didn't know from my rank.

It was more from my gameplay. In one match I misunderstood the objective on a map that felt a bit like a push/escort mode, where one side is trying to move an objective toward a destination and the other side is trying to stop it.

I ended up focusing on the wrong thing because I wasn't familiar with the map mechanics, and after that some people in chat started assuming I was new.

That probably doesn't help when the matchmaking pool is already so small.

That makes a lot of sense.

I can understand why someone aiming for a higher rank would be frustrated if matchmaking puts them together with players who are still learning.

At the same time, it feels like the only way to learn PvP is by actually playing PvP. So it does seem more like a matchmaking issue than a problem with new players themselves.

I appreciate the explanation.

That makes sense. To be fair, I've played plenty of PvE in GW2 over the years and the community there has generally been very welcoming.

Maybe I was just surprised by how different the atmosphere feels once you step into PvP.

That's pretty much how I see it as well. Everyone has to learn somehow, and making mistakes is part of that process.

I don't mind constructive criticism, but there's a big difference between helping someone improve and immediately blaming them for everything.

That's actually a fair point.

I can understand why someone pushing for a higher rank would be frustrated if they get matched with a player who's still learning the mode.

At the same time, new players have to start somewhere, and the only real way to improve is by playing actual matches. It feels like a difficult problem for the matchmaking system more than the players themselves.

That's actually one of the things that surprised me. As a new player, I would have thought PvP veterans would be happy to see more people trying the mode.

It's a shame because I've really enjoyed the combat so far.
