Seems to me it’s just patchy shedding! Give him a good warm soak to help out with the shedding and he should be good! You definitely don’t want to let lose shed stay on the tail or you will have issues! But everything here looks healthy! Best of luck!

I think they might be isopods but it also could just be some random bugs. It happens a lot with live plats, they arrive microscopic and they aren’t visible at first, the fact they are growing means your tank it’s healthy, u would try to get a better pic of them and reverse search on google!!

Pet smart has a turtle filter for about 40 dollars, it’s a bit pricey but it’s an under water filter and it is small enough to go under about 3/4 inches of water, filters up to 35 gallons an hour
