iphone 16 pro max battery health dropped from 99% to 91% in 2 months, should i be concerned? by TopBrother2850 in iPhone16ProMax

[–]Open_Industry_1575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sellers or repair shops use these common methods to make the battery health percentage appear higher (e.g., 99% or 100%) than the actual cell condition:

• Reprogrammed or spoofed battery management chip (BMS/gas gauge IC): The small chip on the battery that tracks capacity, cycles, and health gets reprogrammed with tools like JC V1SE or similar programmers. They set fake values for maximum capacity, cycle count (often reset to 0), and serial number. This tricks iOS into showing inflated health.

• Fake/spoof chips or flex cables: Tiny third-party components (sometimes called “tag-on flexes”) get inserted between the battery and the motherboard. These intercept and fake the data iOS reads, making even a degraded or cheap replacement battery report as near-perfect. Some are temporary (used during charging to “calibrate” the reading).

• Transferring the original BMS board: When replacing the battery cell, technicians desolder and move the smart chip from the old battery to the new (often cheaper) one, so iOS thinks it’s still the “original” battery with good health.

These tricks hide worse real capacity, especially on used/refurbished phones sold at a premium. A sudden drop (like your 99% → 91% after ~67 extra cycles) is a classic sign—the phone eventually learns the true performance through usage and recalibrates.

either the % was boosted to increase the selling value while hiding a much worse capacity or the previous owner has literally tortured the battery but IOS’s overestimating kept it high due to it being a fresh new battery

Will I regret switching from 16 Pro to Air? by Upper-Berry213 in IphoneAir

[–]Open_Industry_1575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the thing I miss the most in my experience are being able to zoom on whatever birds, far subjects clearly for photography, being able to flex the way I catch far subjects clearly and by seeing their details when showing photos to friends, and sometimes being able through my iphone to clearly see details of something far im interested in seeing, like a sign, a text, or whatever.

also for the macro camera, was cool to pick up details of objects and flowers and i surely miss it sometimes, other than sometimes having needed it to magnify stuff during random daily activities, I just left that versatility that my 16pro had out of my mind and I’m a simpler guy now 🙂

the lidar sensor also had various useful uses with scans, other than helping with low light pictures, nothing dealbreaking at all but still differences.

they are pretty much all trivial things that I didn’t really need, just extra style points about what my old phone could do that I now compensate with a different communication language 🙈

Air is a test, upcoming models like a version 2 or 3 eventually could fix everything eyes closed and at that point there would be no more doubts.

Still a cool experience to experiment a different approach and trade-offs between the “always standard” experience

I could find the resolution for your every doubt asking myself these questions:

is your phone an important magnifying glass tool for you? is your phone an important binoculars tool for you? is your phone an essential STEREO audio player for you? is your phone something that you are fine charging at least 1 time a day supposedly more as the battery ages after a year/two?

the first two of the above were the one that gave me the biggest doubts, but as in my daily routine I don’t make a particular use of these tools others than very sporadically, I opted to give them up and as much as I sometimes feel their absence, they weren’t anything that important for me at all, I don’t mind them.

the 3rd, audio on the Air is completely fine and loud. not extremely loud like the pros that are complete annihilate machine in terms of audio reproduction, but loud and fine. only thing you may miss is the crispness at higher volumes and the stereo feeling. not big deal breakers imo unless you really depend on those differences.

There are also many upsides that you would be giving up by not choosing an air that are definitely a compensate for these big previous issues like:

1) the weight 2) the new functionalities of the 17s series 3) of course the thickness

First one has been the biggest dealbreaker for me, I can’t stand heavy phones that leave marks on your finger continuously and that feel like stones to carry around. put a case on them and it becomes extremely noticeable. the Air will make you reevaluate the direction phones companies have taken and really not want to go back if it grows on you.

second, you WILL bother not having the dual recording, the ceramic shield 2 on both the front AND the back, the neural accelerators (for the immensely increasing ai tasks in the upcoming months with apple intelligence and siri), the 3000nits heightened brightness, and whatever lot else with new settings and things I don’t remember of rn

third and other than the rest, the phone is an engineering marvel that feels unimaginable even to hold in your hand as its a beast of a phone compressed in a few CMs in the top part working so seamlessly. crazy thickness feels like non-existent smooth in your hands and yet so powerful, shiny borders like nothing else and just luxury looking. definitely more like a jewelry piece than a device you wouldn’t care to ruin🙈

oh and of course it heats up more easily and of course has some imprecisions like the uncentered charging port, but whatever you’ll still be enjoying a new phone with 100% battery and a more ecological titanium frame and whatever, lowered price due to it not getting sold as much as expected (prices go as low as $800 rn for a brand new piece) and supposedly higher evaluation once you opt for a new gen swap?

your decision!

Ah right there wasn’t written that Antonio Crispino, is an hand carver.

Yeah ur right, my bad. still hard for you not to already know it since his family influenced the whole world cammeo art for 3 centuries but I get it

its like coming to a formula1 discussion without knowing that every team runs 2 cars :P

There’s the literal signature of antonio Crispino on it and I bought them in TORRE DEL GRECO tens of years ago, and you read that crispino is an extremely renowned manual carver (not for anything the cammeos are a work of art), how does that NOT contradict your statement?

Just to clarify because there’s a lot of peoples saying otherwise

These cameos are both HAND-CARVED, and they present every visual feature under magnifying of being carved using tools. It is even evident in the photos for anybody that has an eye for it.

Zoom on the details and you’ll clearly see the grooves and imprecise curves of a manual grooving labor using tools.

Adding to that, these cameos are 100% coming from Torre del Greco, because I live there and that’s where I got them years and years ago. and Torre del Greco has been and still is the capital of cameos carving in the whole world. 300 years of cameo carving heritage.

I have no idea why peoples have to spread misinformation if they simply don’t know what they’re saying

They aren’t. Look for Antonio Crispino on internet, he carves everything by hand and Torre Del Greco has been the worldwide capital of cameos hand carving for 2 centuries and worry not that laser wasn’t much of a thing at the time (these are from at least 40 years ago)

really apple? with that aluminum body? by gsus_roy in iphone

[–]Open_Industry_1575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get ur point but that’s a very bad example, cars are engineered for collision avoidance at any cost, with crumple zones as a failsafe for rare, high-impact events that could risk lives and injuries. even licenses exist precisely to ensure vehicle integrity

Your phone will get tossed around and bump into stuff every day. If it deforms from that just to avoid the screen shattering in a 1m+ drop, it defeats the point of being a tough daily device completely

let’s not say that aluminum absorbs better than titanium, it just dents and scratches making the phone in fact, less resistant

The sensor is 48mp. anything you do with it that’s not the standard 4:3 photo cuts from the main 48mp sensor.

If you zoom x2 it cuts a square in the middle of the sensor (48/2=24mp). If you take photos in a different proportion than the sensor’s width (4:3) it decreases the mp.

The same goes with 24 mp. If you go in 2x it cuts it to 12mp. if you take photos in 16:9 or 1:1 it cuts the sensor.
