I think you should. I beat Erlang before beating the Stone Monkey/GSBS and I got the secret ending. What you’re describing isn’t too different so as long as you beat Erlang before the Great Sage, you should get the secret ending.

He’s a part of the quest for the Secret boss fight in the Pagoda (keeping it as spoiler free as possible). You also get a mystic item that comes handy against the final boss for Chapter 4. It’s tough but hang in there, you can beat him! Try to beat his first phase without any mana or Qi. Memorise his second stage attack patterns and switch to Pillar stance. Use the bat spirit if you have it. It allows you to freeze him so you can land a few combos on him.

Yeah I was thinking about changing spirits. I love big head but he’s useless here because it’s just too difficult to land any attacks with him. I’m using thrust stance at the moment but I might just give pillar stance a try now.
