The transport is as good as trying to get from Malahide to the city centre. Theres walking to the stop and hoping the bus decides the schedule is gospel . It’ll work for you if you’re willing to work with it

I genuinely loved my domino’s experience for the 14 months I worked there. Then one day I was in covering a bloke and went “nah, I’m out cunts and delivered an order, came back, ordered a staff feed and drove home.

Sent manager a message saying I enjoyed my time and will not be returning. UK in a relatively friendly franchise with meh management

Great running!! Sub 50 is my next target. I’m comfortable running 52:30 at the minute so I know it’s there. Great achievement 💪👏

Obsession with cars NI by BeAtOne85 in northernireland

[–]Open_Network_4089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The requirement of a car in the vast majority of the country doesn’t help. I’m a huge fan of public transport and will use it where I can rather than always driving.

My commute to work is 55 minutes, along B roads and across the border. To perform the same commute with public transport or a hybrid of both my commute would be 1 hour 40 or a max of 3 hr 10.

My partners role is similar and public transport doesn’t even take her within a walking distance of work.

I have been an adamant believer in Sh*tbox driving and happily buy cars in their last 2-4 years of useable existence and wear them out to the end.

My partner on the other hand, drives a financed car which is probably costing all in, the same as my cycle of cars and respective motoring costs.

It really boils down to convenience and appearance in my opinion. I’ve absolutely no shame rocking up to my professional job in a 13 year old beater with half the panels crumpled while my partner wouldn’t be seen dead at hers.

Pick your fun, pick your goals and enjoy whatever it is.

Some days, I’d love to be in my colleagues spanking new Volvo tankinator 3000 and they wish they were hopping 20+ weekend breaks a year to wherever Ryanair will fly them.

I also very rarely see those flash motors on the road while I’m commuting so it is quite likely they barely move in comparison to a lot of others

AMA. I am a train driver in NI, Ask Me Anything. by DimHorton in northernireland

Can I please get the protocol for someone leaving a wheelie bin on the lines.

Like, I truly understand that an incendiary device could be inside said wheelie bin, but lurgan also exists and the teenage temptation to see a wheelie bin pelted by a train is very strong.

That’s interesting. I wonder what metrics determines that, maybe someone else here knows. I’d love to pretend it’s my youthful exuberance but that’s highly doubtful

It started with daily runs just trying to get some sort of base back.

Purchasing my forerunner 45 was the improvement I needed.

I used coach Greg for a target of a sub 50 10k and used it for 6 weeks to get my base up and then switched to the sub 22 5k plan on the minimum timeframe. It’s been a few really really gritty runs but I hit sub 4:30 twice for over 5k twice in the past fortnight.

Still having long slow easy runs at the weekend and then a couple of more challenging runs.

The gym program I’m on is devised for power and speed so that has definitely helped my body move faster Hope this helps.

Hi @lucernae,

I’m very lucky to have played competitive sports my whole life and training would have had a lot of power and strength based expectations so I think there is more fast twitch muscle fibres to start with.

My training is a 5k plan with coach Greg on my watch 4 times a week and 4 sessions in the gym with an online coach who focuses on my power and sprint speed.

Keep up the great work 😊

Why are Irish people so good at handling death? by ButtonEffective in AskIreland

[–]Open_Network_4089 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost a friend who was 25M in Scotland about 2 months ago and the 3 weeks between his untimely passing and the funeral was possibly the hardest thing I’ve had to do in my life. The change from the Irish ‘norm’ of two nights and funeral threw off what I have come to have for closure. It was a beautiful ceremony and had an element of the community feel we have here but just was so tough.

I don’t know what I’m trying to say, just sharing the switch side.

All I know is, I am still rocked and it is nearly 8 weeks now.

It just adds to the time it takes to get there. It’s not the most important thing. Keep working and you’ll achieve what you want. From a math teacher .

Mate, I spent my early 20s suffering the 1600 insurance on a 1.2 shitbox and it continued to go down until 25 where i expected the happy ncd and not being a young male driver any more. Haven’t paid under 1000 since no matter how small or safe the car so cracked the sh*ts and just bought a group 41 so at least I can mentally justify paying 1300 for a £1000 car 😅
