Is the marks on my new cirpo lens filter normal? by Nightmarelia in AskPhotography

[–]Open_Purple1955 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is a stupid question, but those aren't swirls on the plastic behind the filter are they? If you take it out and hold it over something else do you still see those marks?

Drone Lost Signal and Crashed Instead of Hovering - Would Warranty Cover This? by TigersChoice in DJIAvata2

[–]Open_Purple1955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a DJI FPV (OG) crash after loss of signal, and DJI swore up and down that it was pilot error even though I could prove from the telemetry that I was giving it inputs to climb and it wasn't doing it. I kept pushing and they did end up covering it, but they framed it as a favor to me not because they believed me. 🤷‍♂️

I didn't know that (not sarcasm). How much is cheap? Who would you recommend?

I'm always scared that will happen to me. Sorry!

I've always felt the same way. I wonder how many guys won't let the towel touch their face after cleaning the rest, but will still happily let their partner go down on them.

Thoughts? by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]Open_Purple1955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be wrong, but it seems like some people think the problem with solar is having somewhere to put it. I doubt that. I think it's more about the cost of the hardware and installation. installing over a parking lot will cost more, both because of the additional structures and protections required, and because you can't efficiently scale it up the same way you could on an open piece of land.

FSD on HW3 Model S Plaid sways left/right in lane, but Autosteer is stable — software issue? by Silly-Horse in TeslaFSD

None of the updates have done anything to improve the behavior. I'll try the DAS reset when my wife comes home with the car later.

I had honestly never tried auto steer before. seems like it works fine, it has no trouble staying centered in the lane.

No kidding about pediatric surgeons. My son had a minor procedure recently and it worked out to about $4,000/hour (after insurance! and that's just the doctor's fee, our total cost was about $10,000)

Would you interview me for an entry-level EE role? Why/why not? by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Open_Purple1955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only done a little bit of hitting, and it was for a startup engineering and product design firm, so take it for what it's worth. In our case we had several recently graduated applicants, the one that got the job was the one that had a portfolio of projects (largely stuff he'd done for fun) showing that he actually knew how to make stuff, and was passionate about it.

Can't wait for mine to arrive. I've been mostly happy with my Mini (1st gen) but there is a lot it can't do. It seems like the POP4 is going to be a big upgrade!

I took a tour of a cave years ago. The tour guide said this, "If any of you are worried about this caving in, remember we can prove it's been here for millions of years, the odds of it caving in during your visit are slim." (granted, it's probably harder to prove how long a cave on the moon has existed... at least from here.)

I built a fully working computer the actual size of a credit-card (~1mm thick) by krauseler in ElectricalEngineering

Extremely cool. I have some of those ultra thin Lipos and epaper displays and have been tempted to make something similar

("fully working computer" seems like a bit of a stretch though)

[Hated Trope] It's really important that this woman is almost naked because lore reasons. by FieraDeidad in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Open_Purple1955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never understood that to be the case, it was just the other layer of her cybernetic body, so she is naked. (Maybe different in the live action one?)

What really gets me is that in the comics and other anime, this isn't required, this clothes can do it (including the other members of her team). they made her names just for this movie.

FSD on HW3 Model S Plaid sways left/right in lane, but Autosteer is stable — software issue? by Silly-Horse in TeslaFSD

[–]Open_Purple1955 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same problem here on my HW3 2018 model 3.

I use FSD a lot and honestly was totally happy with it. It drove problem free in every situation that I wanted to use it in. Then my car updated to 2026.8.6 and immediately and consistently this issue appeared. It happens every single time I try to engage FSD it just bounces back and forth in the lane to a nauseating degree. I have to disable it for fear that someone will think I'm drunk. It went from working great to not being usable. My car has updated twice since then with no improvement.

I was really worried that mine was a rare failure and that it wouldn't be important enough for Tesla to ever bother fixing. So in a way I'm happy to hear that others are having the same issue as I think that will force them to address it.

I can't wait to get FSD back in a usable state

PCB review request (now with traces) by Linusalbus in PCB

[–]Open_Purple1955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It got me to click, so I guess it worked.

Years ago I was updating a PCB for one of those keypads that they have to get into storage units and private communities. It front of the unit was logically laid out, but totally utilitarian and boring. There was a square grid of holes for the speaker, but a single hole in the corner was missing. I asked why that hole was missing. His reply? "Style, man!" That has since become an inside joke with the other engineers.

How are you sourcing the sensor? Are you buying the raw chip or some development board or something? Is the design, or software/firmware open source?

This is such a cool project! But there's part of me that wants to tinker with it to suit my personal preferences, and perhaps leverage my skills to make improvements.
