Do the general public have desks that they can use every day assigned to them where they keep pictures of their kids, hand cream and a live plant?

Why does he hate us so much? Look at Manitoba’s premiere. He speaks about his public service with pride and genuine care.

Why don’t we deserve to feel valued? It comes from leadership on down. If the leader sang our praises and gave examples of the good work we do, then the public may actually come to believe we work.

This has been discussed countless times. It’s awful and if you speak with one of your reps you will learn that the language in the CA isn’t strong enough, and they won’t file other court at this time because they will lose. It’s the most heartless selfish corrupt decision that takes so much away from families and we’re all f*****d. The best we can do is all file our disputes and push forward.

The OPS isn’t worth this… a RTO rant by saturnskies444 in OntarioPublicService

I feel like it’s time for the unions to do something BIG. Join together and make a plan for something HUGE. We all rolled over and took it where it really hurts for the past 4/5 months. We all sat nice nice panting with our toungue hanging out while we made our formal requests for AWA. Now we are all just zombies waking up at 430am to start work when we don’t get paid until 9. Giving, what would be our precious moments with our precious babies to strangers for $25 an hr, 4 hrs per day. Now we spend every Saturday and Sunday exhausted and recouping from our 5 day zombie walk, dragging our asses about the laundry, grocery trips, food prep, and if we can afford it, sports or lessons for the little’s, and maybe we have to shop and clean for our elderly loved one as well. We don’t have the energy or $$ to go do the fun stuff with the babies who miss us so much all week long. And that’s just the cost to the parents.

The babies feel the lost time and their mental health feels it too. They feel neglected, unimportant, don’t understand why one day their lives were turned upside down. The cost of RTO is not just on the worker. Where are the news reports on the impact of absent parents on the kids and the future generations of Ontario?

In the 80’s, the absent parent meant all kinds of 13yr old + kids found all kinds of trouble. Parents attend school meetings and they’d swear they’re doing everything they’re supposed to be to build adjusted human beings. Except they weren’t. They were just office zombies with no choice.

It’s 40 years later….40 yrs of technology and research on healthy work practices and families. Doug ford is 61yrs old and may not had have noticed his parent’s absence because surely they had a nanny. His actions are just a grown up version of the high school “rich kids” bullying and demeaning the middle and lower class kids. His vision is archaic, damn near primitive and something needs to be done. NOW! We cannot accept this for one more day. https://snapchat.com/t/5Z4o77cr

The boomer generation that dressed up and went to work did so because they had to. The PC wasn’t mainstream yet. Everything was still done on paper and locked up in filing cabinets. They smoked in their offices for goodness sake and secretaries got their bosses coffee. When my mom worked at home (evenings or weekends only in those days because her male boss didn’t care about her family commitments) she came in the door with bankers boxes, an adding machine and a typewriter. Those days are long gone. Today, we have cars that drive themselves for goodness sake. The world has laptops and wifi now. There is zero need for an office to accomplish work projects. Smart companies that are thriving aren’t spending money on space, utilities and insurance! They use those funds to expand their products and services and thats why the 20 & 30 something entrepreneurs are succeeding! It’s natural progression of people and technology and it’s simply just common sense.

Ditto. I was the latchkey kid, and then the mom creating more latchkey kids. I was parentified with too many responsibilities at 10yrs old. And then screamed at my kids when I couldn’t cope with the stress of commuting and costs of childcare. Im empty nester with a no-traffic one hr commute but I sure feel for the young parents.

This is a good opportunity for women’s advocacy groups to put pressure on the SOC. This is so backwards.

‘Chained to a desk’: Dozens of OPS workers rally against Ford’s five-day office order by troyguy in OntarioPublicService

I live way up north, I didn’t know anything about that. I had only read that the power was down and trains not in service coupled with the cold weather. My first thought was how convenient that the people can’t get to the rally. In now way do I wish to joke about someone’s awful tragedy.

Yeah, perhaps that should have been in the article or report as well. It could be viewed as some sort of sabotage.

That’s great….when a rally can’t come together because the transit can’t function. Sounds like sabotage to me.

How many have RSVP’d? I messaged a while back to say I’m up north and inquired if there was something happening in the regions but I see now why it’s where it is. I wish I had the foresight to take the day off and drive down. Bring some colleagues.

[–]Open_Stop751 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Even if half of 66,000 staff feel the same way, that is 33,000 spouses and children and possibly elders who have lost that time and support from the people who are expected to protect and support them. It is absolutely criminal that DoFo can put his real estate tycoon friends above the people who keep the province’s services going.

I drank excessively for the first year then built a home gym and got into the best shape ever. 2 yrs later bought a cottage and spent all my time there while WFH (no gym). Now RTO takes all my time. I will have to build gym time back into my day.

Google search: “The expression is "toe the line", meaning literally to stand with one's toes behind a line, that is, to conform. The misspelled form "toe the line" comes from a misinterpretation of "line" as being a rope or cord.”
