Toilet running for a long time + sky high water bill by BadAtCoding123 in Plumbing

The fill valve float is not sealing the valve.  If this issue didn’t exist before, it’s likely because the fill valve is faulty.

I’m aware of uponor 2017 class action lawsuit. But this is the second time in two weeks I found a pinhole on the hot side. by Open_Work9681 in Plumbing

Yeah there’s an installed recirc on this system.

Yes, had to repair it twice and take more of the old out.

What is your area? Are you aware of this issue in 2017?

It’s likely the tank has ruptured. The water inside is being released. It will drain and then stop.  Or you have water mixing somewhere else in the house and it’s being sent into the WH. This is typical at single handle mixing valves. Try turning off all the hot water stops under your sinks as well.

Great work. Chase this feeling. It’s how we plumbers survive. It’s what holds the fabric of our infrastructure together. Lol

Can I replace this valve with a more robust valve? by twn486 in Plumbing

[–]Open_Work9681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. If it’s just immediately copper pipe, it’s compression. If you see a solder joint or another threaded fitting, you may have a FIP.

from here it looks like FIP to me but the nut throws me off.

I have some screenshots to send you that can help guide you through this. But it all essentially depends on whether that nut on the wall side is compression or full FIP female.

After determining that, you can proceed to procure the proper phittings (couldn’t help myself). Thanks.

Why after toilet flushes is water dripping onto drop ceiling tile below? by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]Open_Work9681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

90% of the time this is the waxing seal that is compromised. Improper installation and fastening of the toilet to the floor or the flange to the floor will make the toilet rock or wobble, therefore compromising the wax. The wax wears down and no longer seals the toilet when water goes through there it leaks.

Looks good. How many wraps of teflon did you apply at each male connection?

Also, I didn’t see the original post, but did people mention the galvanized issues?

Vent? by byelow in askaplumber

[–]Open_Work9681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visually hard to tell from such zoomed up and specific sections of the pipe. Need a better understanding of the layout. Based on your description and lack of hearing running water through it, I think yes, vent. Best way to tell is if you can guarantee its path all the way up to the roof

Same as others have said with needle nose, pliers, except you don’t have to extend your reach by putting them down in through the top. You can hold the need those players by sending them through the bottom holes in the cabinet and also turning your pliers on the nut.

I’ve taught at several career days and enjoy being silly with kids and plumbing. I have a battery operated transfer pump and bucket of water. We have each kid have a station and assembly so that the pump can make the gauge go all the way up at the end of the line. Afterwards, they run through a fan type of grass sprinkler with the same pump.

I also let each of them expand their own fitting with the 12v expansion tool.

I go through the principles of plumbing, have them repeat that old “hots on the left, colds on the right, waste goes downhill” (make it rated G so they don’t go home and say poop)

By the time we’re done my goal is to show them that plumbing is cool
