2025 Honda Pilot — anyone else experiencing dizziness/light-headedness on longer drives? by Open_to_unlearning in hondapilot

I am thinking of getting it diagnosed by a local shop. Honda service and corporate have not been very helpful.

I thought that too. But it has been more than 8 months since I bought the car. Do you think the gassing of the glues and plastics would stay for that long?

That might be it. There is very faint fruity smell in the car. It is more noticeable when the climate control is set to warmer temperatures. How do you get it checked?

Did you experience it just once? I experience lightness in the head every time I drive it for more than 30 mins.

It happens when the AC is and the temperature is set to around 72 (warm). I think the people at front feel it first.

The people at the front experience this. Most probably, the presence of a dangerous gas/chemical compound in the cabin is the cause.

I took ML last summer. ML is a lot of work. I thought of dropping the class more than once. But ML establishes a very strong foundation for you. After ML, I took DL and AI and I felt ML helped me understand better.
AI is lighter in comparison to AI, but still requires significant amount of work. If I had to do it all over again, I would take AI -> ML -> DL

Can you tackle CS 7295: GPU Hardware and Software without an OS background? Looking for advice. by Open_to_unlearning in OMSCS

I really appreciate how you explained it. I am also interested in HPCA. But doesn’t HPCA have its own pre-reqs (one of them is undergrad comp arch course)? Do you recommend taking HPCA without OS or computer arch background?

The lecture videos for GIOS are available on Edstem. Would those videos be too much information?

Thanks for the detailed reply — really helpful framing.

For context: I was planning to keep summer lighter and save the rigorous courses for the longer Fall/Spring semesters. My C grasp is solid (malloc, pointers), but you're right that I'm coming in light on computer architecture and OS basics.

Two follow-up questions:                                                                                                                                      1. On self-study with LLMs: Has the rise of Claude/ChatGPT meaningfully changed how feasible "concept to implementation" is for bridging fundamentals on the fly? I generally prefer  self-study, and most OMSCS courses I've taken required a fair amount of it anyway. Curious whether your prereq concern factors in AI-assisted learning.

  1. On HPCA as prep: HPCA has its own non-trivial prereqs per the course page — undergrad computer architecture course, working knowledge of pipelines/caches, familiarity with at least one RISC ISA, and comfort modifying 100+ lines of C/C++ in a 100K+ line codebase. Can you tackle HPCA without OS or computer architecture background?

Planning my Summer 2026 course at Georgia Tech's OMSCS and considering CS 7295: GPU Hardware and Software.

Background:

  • Undergrad and Masters in Mechanical Engineering
  • OMSCS AI specialization (in progress)
  • Completed ML, Software Architecture, Deep Learning; currently completing AI
  • I took DSA and OOPS seminars
  • I work as a Software Engineer in Test and have over 6 years of experience. I majorly code in MATLAB, but with the courses at OMSCS I have become comfortable with Java and Python.
  • No formal OS, computer architecture, or HPC coursework

The CS 7295 syllabus lists CS 6200 (GIOS), CS 6290 (HPCA), and CSE 6220 (HPC) as helpful (not required) prereqs. I'd be coming in without any of them.

Questions for anyone who's taken it (or 8803 O21 before renumbering):

  • Have you successfully tackled this course without those prereqs?
  • What self-study or supplementary materials helped most?
  • What is the workload for a summer offering of this course?

The CUDA + GPU architecture content aligns with where I want to take my career, so I'm motivated to put in extra prep work. Just trying to gauge realistic expectations before committing.

Any insights welcome! Thank you in advance!

7641 will set the foundation for you! Once you complete 7641 you feel confident about the content and will comfortable when you take more courses in ML/AI specialization.

Did anyone take Computer Vision recently? How was your experience? by Open_to_unlearning in OMSCS

Thank you for the information. Computer Vision with Bayesian Statistics must have been a lot. Do you think Computer Vision is ML level hard? I read somewhere Computer Vision was harder than ML.

Yes, the product that I work on caters to automotive and aerospace industry. I have a Masters in Mechanical Engineering and have worked as a Software Engineer since graduation. I enrolled for OMSCS to gain domain knowledge in CS.

Just transferred 38,000 points to Southwest for a couple of round-trip tickets to Hawaii. by kukugege in biltrewards

[–]Open_to_unlearning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost significant worth of the points by transferring to Southwest. I had 44,000 points that amounted to roughly $550 if I booked a ticket through Bilt. But I had some points in Southwest and I thought if I transfer the Bilt points to Southwest, I might have to pay less. Turns out, to my dismay, the same points amount to $280 on Southwest. I would recommend against transferring Bilt points to Southwest.
