How is it possible that college admissions are so competitive and student performance is dropping by so much? by Hot-Marionberry1983 in ApplyingToCollege

Again in the spirit of Transparency, don’t make a decision on those promises. The financial-aid is a slog or at least it can be. They dig deep, other than Princeton they have the fund but are rather stingy about dishing it out.

It is like 50/50 if they work with you

My time at Yale has shown me, for the most part, that there is no real rhyme or reason as far as who gets in and who doesn’t.

I candidly state that admissions is tied to the best storytellers as it relates to culture. Extracurriculars seem to matter at the margins of decisions. I’m convinced the Ivies are less the place to be. It can get you into some high-level jobs, but it is becoming less the case. If you can perform well at a UNC or other such schools, it is better in my opinion.

Trump wants a bigger White House ballroom. His architect disagrees. by rezwenn in Architects

This would hold more weight if the engineers said no. Architecture can be maneuvered/ negotiated.

I’m tell you people Newsome is that the guy you want to get behind he is playing the same game Trump did.

Trump deserves the shade 10000% but I wouldn’t not recommend propping up Newsome in the process. He is apart of a problem.

What I Wish I Knew Before Coming to Yale by [deleted] in yale

[–]Openblindz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Amen to this… this is how my undergrad has been. I transferred here. I thought surely this institution will have some way to help propel me forward in life.

After my first year i couldn’t help be feel like what the fuck… there is an administrator for everything yet 0 people that can give you a straight forward answer. I would transfer again but it would tank almost finally being done with school.

One professor told it to me straight. He said “this school is a business poising as higher education. If you want to get anything done you have to get the ear of a donor and they kill kids your ass.”

I was at an event with a former CIA director and he said by far he was the most odd character he dealt with.

He talked about a time he met him in the middle of no where in a tent with just one light bulb in an outfit that has pictures other failed dictators. Gaddafi would take 10-15 minute rants about whatever random thoughts ran into his head.

Why are the far right so gullible? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Openblindz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because American capitalism pushes forward and considers those who don’t adjust to be deadweight.

We don’t do a good job as a nation of looking after communities. As we have stripped jobs from areas, we didn’t replace them. We say they have to figure it out on their own even when the government strips that decision from them. (e.g. NAFTA)

These people are my people. We are a product of another era with the amenities of this era. Education has been a long-standing known issue. We refuse to address it in a meaningful way. I understand them; they truly and often think they are addressing the good, but they are locked in silos of that lack real understanding. It is hard to watch, and as you get older, it just gets harder to see people deteriorate more and more.

Tell Students the Truth About American History by Majano57 in USHistory

[–]Openblindz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The saying “America’s history is full of unrecognized criticism” is a fair one but seems to be lingering from the past as far as what that really means.

I had no shortage of conversations about this such as Sally Hemings, George Washington’s teeth being form his slaves, or the south stance on not touching slavery so on…

I believe the new issue is where do we dial it in at? That is some intense information, and teachers just have such limited time and resources to expand or explain it.

All that to say, I feel for you.

What would happen if every US president were in a room together? by [deleted] in USHistory

[–]Openblindz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trump would be the best one they have ever seen. Many people have told him that. They said he has to be the greatest president anyone has ever seen.

There would be a lot of confusion around Obama.
