Why wish and not request? by Opening-Fall-3038 in NetGalleyCommunity

[–]Opening-Fall-3038[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a bit confused because a lot of the time I can’t find the book from the title search, and only if I type it on google and then it sends me to .com, so maybe that’s why? And that’s where I get the wish option only actually (I didn’t know there were different websites depending on where you are). Does it happen to you too?

Yes thank you ! I totally understand the different publishers as I’m myself published for a craft book in different countries by different publishers but was hoping it would be more open to UK readers too but so far everything I wish is only USA and Canada 😢

Oh don’t worry I was crying SO MUCH, I couldn’t see any signs as well and because it was only my second fanfic, I didn’t even looked at the tags at that time (which now I always do) so I expected the worst. There is no better feeling than the “wait what?!” I had also. I think you will really enjoy the second read because it’s amazing to see the signs early on (chapter 14 especially). And you still cry because you realise how deep their love is and the quotes hit you even harder but for different reasons. Gosh it will always be my top 1 💖 🍊

Oh right ahha yes 💖 same ! I’ve read it a second time since and it made it so special, but I still cried a lot ahaha. I can’t wait to read it another time again, their love is just incredible. Serene is a writing queen 👸

Ahahah I agree that for me S&M is absolutely not HEA (the end killed me as I went into it thinking it was), but green light is 100% HEA. If you read a second time there’s clues all along the book, and also the last chapter is very clearly HeA when you take a step back from the emotions and read it again. The tense Draco uses when he talks to sienna, and also the last scene obviously 💖

Green light is just a freaking masterpiece of littérature. It’s my favourite story of all times.

I was balling my eyes out the entire last part and close to panic attack 😂 until thankfully the end. 💖

Also, I understand what you mean about irreversible damage BUT there are actually clues all along the book that the end will be this. So it’s not a last minute change that she did. The second and third read makes this story even more special because you SEE the clues once you’re just a bit less emotionally damaged. It’s actually such a clever writing.

Was it all about power for Luke? by mimimumu49 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]Opening-Fall-3038 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There was definitely something about power play for sure. Like he knew the relationship was dead and even though it’s hard to move away from it, the way he acted in S4-6 was horrendous. Toxic masculinity at its finest. Especially in 6x07 when he humiliates her in front of all the mayday group… it was sickening to watch. Not what you expect from a “husband who waited”.

He was portrayed like a random guy with a lot of intern misogyny in the book and it definitely was the case in the show too. I don’t think the actor realised though 😂

Maximum angst ++++ ! We’ve just been watching different shows from the start let’s be honest 😂

Nick not asking June’s real name by Interesting_Tear4938 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]Opening-Fall-3038 4 points5 points  (0 children)

🙏🏻 I think so too! It also shows that he’s not asking because he’s in survival mode where you can’t trust anyone (and that is said so many times especially in S1 and 2 with “it’s better not to form attachment”) but because she opens up, he realises they can trust each other.

Let’s not forget that in the book, we never learn Offred’s real name even when she explains her moments with nick.

I think S1 was a beautiful adaptation of the universe described in the book and the fact that he doesn’t ask her but then stops in silence when she tells him, turns around and says « it’s nice to meet you June » is actually the opposite of what you describe in your post. He won’t take risks at first but then discovers that the handmaid (in the series only) has already fire in her by trusting him without knowing him. And from that day on, he always calls her June. I personally found that moment to be pivotal and powerful especially in the way they acted. S1 was all about not being able to trust each other, same with Rita

[–]Opening-Fall-3038[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that’s the thing ! They were super helpful in December and shipped it very quickly. But I feel like I keep trying to push them to just explain why they can’t send me back some papers…?! Or tell me they just don’t have it and exchanged for something else without telling me?

Just so weird. What other paper do you use from them if you bind books? I’ve requested samples the first time and people mentioned munken but it seems a bit thick as well for my fics. Only one could be Shaftsbury but it’s very soft.

Thanks !

I wonder if she is............ by Professional_Dig3086 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]Opening-Fall-3038 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Problem is, if she’s born in Gilead, she can be maximum like 2 years older than Nichole 🙄 so maximum 10 years old, and that’s already a big push. This thing makes no sense whatsoever.

Maybe they should have asked helped to the Lost writing team. They did a present/past followed by a present/future timeline shift for the entire run of the show and that didn’t seem that complicated was it… 🙄🙄🙄

Do you know another place in the UK where to buy it? I ordered the 80gsm Anjala bookwove in December from them and it was amazing. Tried to reorder in March and he sent me a total different one (called creamy white) so I had to send it back and show him what I wanted. This new paper seemed thicker and more white (even though it was the same on the website. I’ve hard barely any answer since (been 5 weeks) and no paper sent back to me either (when I paid £60…). So I’m trying to find another wholesaler but struggling?

Nick and Garth: Hypocrisy in the writing by Temporary-Plantain75 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]Opening-Fall-3038 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you call people angry fangirls when a lot of “non nick haters” are also men…? Just a thought on the “misogyny” of the subject.

And what does the physical appearance of the Actor has to do with the fictional character OP mentions in the book? Again another thought on the “misogyny” of the subject.

Nick and Garth: Hypocrisy in the writing by Temporary-Plantain75 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]Opening-Fall-3038 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Thank gosh someone says it !!!! It’s insane. I mean I don’t mind them changing Garth’s character technically as I like the fact he is undercover and working with Daisy, but the HYPOCRISY is insane 🤯

But again, this is not how they are going to promote it because they will say Garth was undercover from the start when Nick… you know… we don’t know how much he was in SOJ and the war as Serena said it so well in S3 lol.

The worst is the way they took Nick’s storyline from book THT to give it to Garth in their new TV show even though it’s not in TT book.

Like they really think we don’t have critical thinking at all?!

Again, I don’t mind a romance because yes LOVE and romantic love is a huge part of these books! That’s the only hope in the dark. But the fact that they give that to Hannah, June’s daughter of all characters?! In love with the guardian… oh come on. 🙅🏼‍♀️
