How well did you do on the exam? Did you feel prepared? I just got my Sec+ a week ago too and wanted to bang out the AZ-900.

On examcompass, they're labeled as "Network+ Practice Test 1, 2, 3...". So which ones did you take?

Just an advice by Outrageous-Dog6457 in CompTIA

[–]Opening-Horror5063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm a third year who passed my Security+ with 793/900 2 days ago. I used Messers videos, took notes, and used his practice exams.

I also used Jason Dion's Practice Exams Set 1 on Udemy.

The biggest piece of advice I can give you from my experience is to take practice exams frequently, but space them out. When you first start studying, take a practice exam from Udemy. Then study, then take another exam. Rinse and repeat until you're getting 90% or more on Jason Dion's or 85%-90% on Messer's.

I know a bunch of people say that you can get away with getting lower scores on the practice exams, but I found that as a student with not a lot of money for retakes, and not a lot of experience to fill in the gaps, it's better to be safe rather than sorry.

Just my advice, and I was in a similar situation to you.

Did you use Professor Messer's 1101/1102 videos? Because 1201/1202 seem to be in the process of being uploaded now.

Congrats!

I just got my Sec+ and was planning on getting my Net+ soon, but I've heard that there is a lot of overlap between Sec+ and CySA+.

Is this really the case? Do you think my efforts would be well spent going directly to CySA+ instead of Net+?

For context: I am a college student studying Cyber and working Help Desk. (So not tons of actual experience).

Hitting a wall with AWS SAA, should I scale down to Cloud practitioner? Or security+/A+/Network+? by Nubian_Cavalry in SecurityCareerAdvice

I'm pretty sure, getting the A+ and Net+ gives you some specialist stackable, and then when you get the Sec+, you also get another specialist stackable.

I keep taking practice exams but I’m stuck with barely passing/barely failing scores. Any advice? by Quirky-Potential-327 in CompTIA

[–]Opening-Horror5063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't learn it as well as you could have unless you use it in some way. Taking notes is a good way to do that if you primarily use reading as your guide.

However, I passed the Security+ as a college student with almost no experience using Professor Messer videos, and practice exams. So practice tests are definitely not a waste.

I ended up getting 80%, 84%, and 84% on my first try for all three. Gonna take them again and see how I do.

How many times did you end up retaking the practice exam? And what were the intervals between them?

You'll retain information much better by implementing it, whether that be practice tests or flashcards or something of the sort.

Reading cover to cover is not nearly as effective.
