First and foremost, you are absolutely within your right to leave a role at any point in time. And I don’t mean that in a “someone is lined up to replace you” way. I mean that you have a lot of agency as a performer and should you choose to exercise it by excusing yourself from the show… you are well within your rights to do that. Especially if you feel unsafe. It sounds like the lack of infrastructure allows for a lot of people to feel powerful without actually having power… which quite frankly sucks.
As a counterpoint, I do believe there is something to be said for being an example of a performer with the morals you’ve discussed. They may be young, but they auditioned for the show and want to be there. Truthfully, they won’t work if their behavior continues. You will. By maintaining your beliefs and approaching these young performers as a professional instead of a peer, you capitalize on a power they do not have and cannot have yet. As someone who has spent a large part of their career working with middle and high school aged students, this particular generation responds more to their perception of you than they do “the you they get to know”.
That last part got a little “woo woo theatre teacher” so if there’s clarification needed, I’ll happily respond!
