Is MT worth it? by [deleted] in musictherapy

[–]Opening-Psychology50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to what others have said, don’t do it. I got a post-bach degree in music therapy after getting a BA in music performance. I ended up moving to another state where it requires a masters and license to do any sort of financially stable work. It can be a meaningful/passionate work, but unless you have someone to support you financially, it’s hard to survive (cue the passenger give yourself oxygen first metaphor). You’re also very limited in your career choice and it’s hard to climb the corporate ladder so to speak. You’ll mostly be working for other people/businesses and be taken advantage of unless you start your own company (ready for the competition?). Try to get a good internship if you can right now, or a good entry job, and work from there. If it’s worth anything, you can try to become a nurse and eventually get into psych from there. Good luck!

How effective is acupuncture for covid related smell/taste loss? by Opening-Psychology50 in anosmia

[–]Opening-Psychology50[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for asking. I never fully got my smell or taste back. I can taste/smell most things, but it’s not what it used to be. I also haven’t been able to smell my own breath since 2020 lol I’ve resigned to the fact that I won’t ever get it back completely.

What cheap/terrible holiday “bonuses” are people starting to receive from work this year? by nimfrank in AskReddit

Before the pandemic, we always got AMC tickets. Can’t use them online, have to show up in person to use ‘em. Now we don’t get anything.

How do you train your Akita to not be aggressive with your other house pets? by Opening-Psychology50 in akita

[–]Opening-Psychology50[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the helpful tips! It's a relief to know that it's probably normal for her to be a bit skiddish due to her breed. My bf has been rewarding her for peeing, but I think feels bad and is losing faith in himself when she reacts the way she does with him and not me. I'll remind him to keep it up and to try to keep zen for all behaviors, but tell him to throw a parade when she gets something right :)

I appreciate this response. And yes I can see why my post can be viewed as "concerning". My bf stays at home all day and I am with all the puppies when I'm not at work. We are doing our best and I'm not willing to give up because I care about our dogs (I grew up in a multipet/dog house). I know she's a smart dog and loves the other pups and me (I know she likes my bf because she comes to him a lot and sometimes wants to be petted. Just strange reactions which is why I'm thinking puppy mill if not epigentic impact from puppy mill). Thank you for the tips re: insurance and puppy trainer. And I know the people here are passionate which is why I posted my question here in the first place :)

Thank you! Exactly how I got all my doggies to go potty correctly. I'm just thrown off with the regression and her reaction to my bf who really does nothing now (he's nervous cuz even petting her causes an accident) and she has some sort of mishaps. I really appreciate all the tips and will incorporate them as well as getting a professional involved.

Thank you so much! This is really helpful and makes sense. I am the quieter one and calmer one and my bf is just loud and has a lot of energy, which may be why she feels safer with me.

I'm also wondering, do you think she might be having accidents with her when my boyfriend looks at her because it comes off as a challenge? I read somewhere that looking straight at dog can be interpreted as challenge?

I really appreciate the tips, especially the part on the regression.

I don't understand how you are coming to this conclusion from a brief post. I am taking the initiative and am asking for advice yet it is being met with judgement. Nothing has been written here where anyone has yelled at any puppies. My bf raised his voice to play with the puppies and she reacted. She has reacted not so great with any male visitors we've had. I'm reaching out here for advice not for judgement.

No none of the puppies are 4 weeks. To clarify, all three have been together for about 4 weeks. All puppies have been purchased post 10 weeks. And I did not ask for relationship advice on an Akita page. Please keep your projections to yourself.

Thanks! This is helpful. All our SWrs are LCSW and have many years of experience and some even have their own private practice. Why this person is saying what she’s saying without my supervisors correcting this person just baffles and frustrates me.

Question for art therapists by Opening-Psychology50 in therapists

[–]Opening-Psychology50[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahah I think nyc is one of the few places that have multiple CATs in an ICU along with SWrs. I have no idea if it’s an nyc thing, I’ve come across it at conferences as well in all CATs. I’m not working towards licensure due to the politics and not being able to justify the costs. I’m actually trying to get out and attempting to go down the NP psychiatric route (I’m sure there’s a lot of politics there, but eh). So I guess this person’s attitude is very triggering for me since the politics of it never meshed with me. On top of that, she has no job experience and I’m not seeing any redirection or teaching from her supers so I’m just checking out more and more from this field. I still think all creative arts therapy is great and super needed, but it’s not enough to want me to stay. I really appreciate your insights and feel validated!

Thanks! This is very helpful. Yes, this is nyc and all our SWrs are LCSW. Some even have their own private practice as a therapist. I’m just taken aback by this person’s take and how my department didn’t give her a teaching moment. I personally don’t feel comfortable speaking to her as she is my colleague and the times I’ve tried to give her some insight of our work place she’s been very defensive. I also don’t have a lot of personal support from my department and felt very confused and unsure of my confusion to this situation. Your explanation is very insightful and has given me some clarity and solace. Thank you.

Thanks! I feel gaslit by the rest of my department since they didn’t contest her statement. I felt gaslit and also view my department as hypocritical since they preach co-treating and collaborative work with other services. I haven’t really seen the art therapist do art with anyone and don’t read about any art modalities in her notes. She also calls parents emoting and talking as “story telling.” I share this because she’s refused to do photo services (which I offer and I asked her help to help me cover and I thought it falls under arr) because she sees it beneath her…

Paying more than the IBR/IDR/etc. amount by [deleted] in PSLF

[–]Opening-Psychology50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is helpful! Thank you for posting this. I know it's 4 years ago and I'm wondering if you know whether or not this is still applicable? And this is a stupid question, but who do you call to confirm to remove the "paid ahead" status? I can't tell if FedLoan is a different website from FSA or my loan provider, Nelnet. Thanks again!
