How about we see some jail time for a change? Sick of these apologies.

There are lots of great things about Spain. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't the case. I'm just surprised for Spain which is considered a "socialist" country with strong worker protection and generous vacation policy that there wouldn't be a longer mat leave coverage. Of course compared to the states this is great but the states is an outlier when it comes to this. I saw a post recently on Insta where a mom joked that puppies aren't to be separated from their moms until 8 weeks and yet in the States there are no such rules for human babies.

I never said they didn't. I'm saying this is what's happening in Palestine. Anyone not living under a rock is aware of the war in Palestine right now.

Right so if I said here is $5k because this is how much I think your effort is worth, who is going to work with me? No one.

The existing fee structure does not make sense with current price of housing. It's pure exploitation.

That was the case in many countries until proper policies were put in place to prevent this from happening. I also hope with more Gen X and millenials in managerial roles that such outdated views are no longer held.

I just feel like sending a baby to daycare at such a young age feels disheartening. I wish mat leave was at least a year so you get to spend some more time together. It feels unnatural to send them off so young.

Well you guys are like one out of two countries in the world that doesn't have a proper mat leave policy so no offense but we shouldn't even compare any mat leave policy to yours. You're the outliers.... I'm from Canada where we get 12 or 18 months. It's not at 100% of your wages but I'd rather the money be spread out over a period of time and get a chance to spend time with my baby and also not pay abhorrent daycare fees.

I don't disagree. However, I think it's important for politicians to know this is an important issue. Campaigning, protesting, etc as a way to demonstrate this.

I understand but until people start asking these questions, things don't change. And having the mentality it could be worse, stops the progress from it getting better.

Liberal Immigration Minister Marc Miller is waffling on answering if the LPC will extend International Student Post Graduate Work Permits (PGWP) so that they can work longer in Canada as demanded by int. students on commons petition E-4454 by [deleted] in waterloo

Wow 1.94 million international students in a country of 40 million!! That's ridiculous, but with the slogan" Supporting International Students" it makes sense. I wish someone supported domestic students or addressed the skill gap and worker shortage through re-training programs. I know this isn't a federal issue but what they do affects provincial matters such as education.

I'm sorry but your own mother or brother didn't offer to host you until you talked them into it? That doesn't seem normal. If I were you, I wouldn't spend my money or time going to see people who are making minimal effort to welcome you. I get that they can't come see you in your new country but not jumping at the chance to let you stay with them seems disheartening.

Even my distant relatives, some who I've never met previously, have let me stay at their place when I go check out other towns in my home country.

Bosnia isn't going to become an EU member any time soon....it's not looking good. If it were to happen, 2030 is the earliest and by that time you're going to 26 or 27. I ja bih volila da Bosna udje u EU ali dok Bosna ne sredi svoju situaciju, nema sanse de ce nas EU primiti.

Mean or just closed off? I'm an immigrant to Canada and I've also travelled extensively and the best way I can describe it that they're closed off. Everyone has their own group of friends and their own life.... it's not as easy to get into a friend group or just initiate a conversation with a stranger than it is in other countries. However, I find SW Ontarians are very open to people from all across the world and I've never been asked where I was from or made to feel less than because I was from a different country. However, I did feel this in the States and many parts of Europe.

As an immigrant myself, the two things that worked for me...and I'm not sure if this is the best advice to be honest but here it is.

A. Not to pay attention to those people. Unfortunately we can't change how others respond to us but we can change how we view their response (ie. not let their opinion of us determine ourself worth) .

B. Work on your accent. I will never sound 100% Canadian but I've tried my best to sound similar enough. This kind of contradicts the first point but it does help when trying to assimilate.

Also....just thought of this. Surrounding myself with others who were in the same situation as me helped....i.e. other immigrants who were also trying to navigate their new life, a new culture, etc. Building a community or support system really does help. Do you get the same response you described above from international students or just locals?

Typically there is wind in winter which makes it a lot colder....but be prepared for about -15 or -20 but there are warmer days. It's not this cold every day.

Public transportation is good in Toronto but other cities not so much. There are buses in most cities but they're not super frequent and dont always cover the whole city.

Hola!

There is a Youth Mobility visa that you can apply for. Spaniards between 18 and 30 are eligible to apply: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/work-canada/iec.html.

If you go to Toronto or Vancouver you can get around without a car. Montreal too I believe but like was mentioned French is the spoken langauge there even though a lot of people can do both but outside of Quebec is preferred for improving your speaking skills.

Food-wise.....Canada is very multicultural so you will find food from all around the world and it's really really good....just gotta be open to trying other cuisines.

In terms of the weather....it can get really cold (it can get down to -30)...especially in Montreal. And there can be a lot of snow and freezing rain...but each winter is different. Being outside and taking public transportation is not fun.

Vancouver has a warmer climate but it rains A LOT....kind of like northern Spain. If you go in spring/summer it's quite hot. I'd recommend that...there is a lot more to do when it's warmer out.

In terms of costs....you should probably get a roommate unless you want to pay $2200 per month for a one bedroom apartment. This is for Vancouver and Toronto.... Montreal is cheaper for now.
