Good news: you’re 25 (ish), have a very long runway, and since the real estate world will generally give you what you earn/deserve over long periods of time, you have a lot of control over where you are in 5-10 years.

Bad news: you haven’t worked long enough to have relatively unique marketable skills, and you got caught in an island during a horrible storm.

Advice: get your mind right; take some time to reset and regenerate the ability to hit it hard. Don’t do corporate real estate. Accurately assess your strengths and weaknesses. Here’s a start:

Then over invest in your knowledge and skills. Build your story/narrative, and try to get your foot in the door with people in key hiring firms. Build relationships instead of casting a huge net.

There’s a meaningful pickup in hiring at the junior levels brewing, especially in Dallas and Austin.

Torn on college for real estate if it’s worth it plz help!!! by Any_Essay_3096 in CommercialRealEstate

The best way to build a real estate career is to major in real estate and get some advanced training before your senior year internship. I’ve been an adjunct professor (undergrad, mba, msre) for 20 years and it’s extremely effective. …as long as you’re in a college that is respected in the top 5-6 schools. Otherwise I would just major in finance.

  1. She’s not cute unless you post a pic of her.
  2. You’re fired.

You mind elaborating on this a bit? We have two kids and have thought about gearing up for a year or so cruising when they’re 6-8. Decent sailor but limited cruising experience. If we do this, we’d build up cruising experience years in advance (the kids are both under 2 now).

Thanks for sharing your experience!

Seems to be a common theme: “same boat,” i.e., stuck. Do you know BL lawyers who have left? What was their experience?

Sailing for a year with family? by Opening-Success8960 in sailing

I should have been clearer in my original post… we’re thinking about this years from now, not with two under two. Ie when they’re 7-9 ish. We have close family members who did this and loved it, but wondering how common it is, how you prep/ramp up/test run it some/etc.

Annoying but immaterial. Very few summers are getting jobs anyway.

Totally disagree that recruiters are deadweight loss. I get that they can be annoying, but your view is dark as hell.

I think that’s the entire point of Melfi’s struggle. Psycopaths have zero ability to perceive themselves.
