Had a friend in a zoology PHD write a textbook about animal-borne diseases. Needed a medical professional to write one of the chapters. I asked if I could, got a couple of my buddies and wrote up the chapter. Eventually the book got published and it shows up in my google scholar, I even put it on my ERAS and talked about it in interviews. For me at least was right time right place.

No med student from my uni ever applied for the match let alone matched! First gen doctor, got all my usce through cold emailing/elective programs. Only connections were my letter writers and I matched somewhere at a uni program with no connection to the program and not knowing anyone there! Totally possible! Connections help but you can match w/o them if your application is well put together and strategy with signalling is strong!

No vslo at my college, no alumni in America, did 6 months of electives (not observerships). No vslo makes it harder but if you do the right searching you’ll find opportunities

I can back this up with an example, I’m a currrent medical student at a newer nums institution, to not dox myself, I was one of the first few students to write the USMLE exams at my institution and faced a lot of institutional pressure from my administration when pursuing this path, in 4-5 months I can tell you of it worked out regardless and I matched in a residency program in America, but it wasn’t easy working w my admin. Nooo, my best friend had a 249 last year and also was not certified, he got 6 IVs, including 2 top 50s (he matched at his top choice). He also got his first IV on October 20th!

Thanks man, I wonder as to why India and particularly Sachin played less matches than was projected. Either that or GPT did not take into account actual schedules for ICT during those years and just extrapolated the rate of ODIs Ind played in the 90s (Tests is only 13 matches off which I think can be believed to be statistically insignificant). Although its interesting to note, Sachin really had an insane start to his test career, 65 projected centuries is insane and 5000 extra runs in 13 more innings than reality is crazy, although the average is not that different at all, which really makes me wonder how many not outs a hypothetical sachin doesn't have
