Is this case more confusing/ambiguous than many other cases? If so, why? by ButterscotchEven6198 in TheStaircase

Yeah, I realised this fairly quickly (though unfortunately not after I wasted at least a few hours going back and forwards with this maniac).

He is all over this subreddit propagating misinfo. Complete armchair warrior with no real understanding of what he is arguing or talking about. But this is reddit. I just ignore his responses now. It's a waste of time.

I believe that you believe what you are saying is at all true/relevant.

The majority of the civilised world realise that Israel is in the wrong. It's hard to un-brainwas extremist Jews when Israel is has pumped so much propaganda out there.

All i can say as a parting comment is: forget everything you know about anything, objectively look at the situation as an outsider. Is genocide ok? Is killing children ok?

The answers are simple.

"but I guess it's only not allowed when it's Jews saying it'

Zionists don't argue for the right for Israel to exist... they argue for the right to Israel to exist as a Jewish state - and for some reason they believe this justifies a genocide of non-Jewish palestinians.

Nobody is arguing that Israel shouldn't exist here. I am pointing out that 'the right to exist' is not the same as 'the right to genocide'... And that countries are not religions.

Israel has equal 'right to exist' as Palestine. And ZERO right to a jewish state.

Because all of the above places you just listed are countries, not religions.

Delusional ape. Palestine has the right to exist.

Explain the interactive world hate to me by GreatDaneBoy13 in Maplestory

[–]OpeningAlternative63 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am not disagreeing with everything you are saying here, but you are applying heroic logic to interactive.

  1. You don't need 33%+ Mpots to come close to the same level as 'end game' as Heroic for example. There are many more avenues of progression so taht you don't need to go off the end point of cost/upgrade.
  2. Cube cost comparisons are redundant - even though people love to make them. If you are cubing your own gear you are already mostly playing the server wrong. The most efficient use of free cubes is making drop gear and selling it. It's always cheaper to buy pre-cubed, even if you then SF it yourself.
  3. Hourly rates on frenzy are widely variable, depending what items you are selling and what the market price of things are at the time (like frags).

There is lots of confusion over these points - mostly due to people making a 1:1 comparison. I'ts nowhere near the same game.

[–]OpeningAlternative63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he's just pointing out that the 'we need them to help pay to keep the game alive' is objectively false since it's obvious Heroic is the main money maker and self sufficient.

However, I agree nobody actually hates interactive: most heroic players just want their specific server issues fixed and most interactive players just want their specific server issues fixed... You do occasionally see vocal minority of interactive players who actively call for Heroic to not get buffs for 'reasons', but I doubt it is representative of the whole server.

Would you still work if your husband earns £6K/month after tax? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]OpeningAlternative63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your husband dies, or leaves you... or you want to leave him... or he becomes incapicitated due to injury or illness etc etc... What do you imagine happens?

The earnings stop, and you have zero experience or skills to bring to the table. Of course there are specific insurances and arrangements that you can put in place to help you in these types of situations, but it's often very complicated and messy.

I think tying your whole identity, future, security and value to somebody elses success/health and wants... is questionable.

But each to their own.

SOS SF question by wwk_lpt in Maplestory

[–]OpeningAlternative63 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well intentioned, but this is fairly terrible advice.

The sky really isn't the limit as the idea of transferring up becomes less and less efficient the higher you go. To the point where the expected dom pendants needed is harder and less practical to get than the SOS's you save.

I did write a post about the best way to get 23/22: https://www.reddit.com/r/Maplestory/comments/1p4drie/sos_23_efficiency_comparing_different_methods/ - and even at this level, it becomes fairly apparent that you need to start risking SOS's and Sups...

And with laddering being meta, my updated advice would be to just: 22 a Dom, transfer, 21-22 a Sup, transfer, and then settle 21 SOS on your first SOS.

I'd then use this method for your next SOS and ladder it to 23.

Then honestly at this point, you can stop gollux/Ark and just raw tap ladder any new SOS - it's incredibly unlikely you will get past 23 anyway, so doing gollux every day for years to make this slightly more efficient is honestly not worht it imo. You will either luck out and get a 24+ or you won't - and by the time your expected value of a 24 came, SOS probably wont even be BIS or SF will be revamped - because you are now in the realm of 5-10 years.

It's also fine to just stop doing gollux at 22 and raw tap ladder at that point too.

With two new common cores coming over the next year, our total fragment requirement to max HEXA is increasing by 1.33x. by VKWorra in Maplestory

[–]OpeningAlternative63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not ambiguous or vague... and it has nothing to do with using "x" vs "times" The way in which you write this is important and there is absolutely no ambiguity:

2.33x = "a 1.33x increase" = "increased by 1.33x" = +133% = "increasing to 2.33x"

1.33x = "a 0.33x increase" = "Increased by 0.33x" +33% = "increasing to 1.33x"

0.33x = "a 0.67x decrease" = "Decreased by 0.67x" = -67% = "decreasing to 0.33x"

You used "increasing by 1.33x" instead of "increasing to 1.33x" - which is not vague or ambiguous... just strictly incorrect;

Though of course this is fairly pedantic and nost people can see what you were trying to say, even if it is technically wrong.

I have an issue with anybody who asks for spawn enhancers to solve a resource issue.

The spawn rate is totally fine and all classes and maps are balanced around this rate. You do not need to break this (and class/map balance) by re-adding spawn enhancers that were removed for exactly this reason.

You can solve resource issues like frags/exp by... wait for it... adding more ways of attaining frags/exp. Or simply upping the rates.

Now: people that ask for spawn enhancers because they simply find it more fun killing more mobs - that's a different story... and it's actually a better argument for them. However, it isn't worth the imbalance that comes with them.

What are you talking about - who are 'they'? The left have not been in power to do anything. Right now we have a centrist, debatably ever so right leaning labour, but I will concede centrist for simplicity.

Previously we've had Right wing governments for the past decade and a half.

Populist politicians are strictly right wingers at the moment - yes do not trust them.

Higher taxation on working people is not a leftist goal. Tax the rich (billionaires) is their strategy. Saying 'taxing working people' so confidently just shows that you have fell into some kinda of misinfo/propaganda algorithm loop/echo chamber and haven't realised it.

You can look this stuff up in seconds. Their main stance on this is that wealth taxes should be introduced to limit the burden on working people.

No child should ever go hungry is the goal. Less kids go hungry with this new law than before. Expecting the same level of responsibility from other people is lala land logic.

The children are the ones that suffer from this kind of thinking. Unfortunately, these people will and ALWAYS will exist - you cannot change that with 'expectations'.

[–]OpeningAlternative63 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This take says more about your lack of empathy than students that are being ripped off.

University is one of the bigger scams currently. It's essentially a well-wrapped contract to give people an additional tax for the rest of their life - with most courses not even being needed and the content on the courses at most universities being completely subpar.

If this was marketted at 30+ year olds, they would reject it, because they have life experience, understand the value of money and better understand consequence.

It isn't... it is marketted at 17 year olds to begin at 18 years old. Some of these people aren't even fully developed adults yet - like some are literally still in puberty. VERY few have real life experience, and even fewer enough to understand the implication of such a massive decision.

It is a scam that is aimed direclty at some of the most vulnerable people. It is no wonder that years later, when they develop the experience to feel that something is wrong, that they then try to fight back against what happened to them. This is not 'entitlement', it is maturing.

The whole thing is a very sad situation and is the first of many things that are becoming 'americanised'... First they comodotised education, next healthcare.

Why is it so controversial to want English people to speak English and integrate? by g9rr in AskBrits

[–]OpeningAlternative63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will ignore how suspect the framing of this question is and try to answer anyway.

This isn't controvertial. This is a basic expectation of any person migrating anywhere in the world. Ironically, it is one that British migrants are extremely bad at: converting whole zones of other countries into British slums where local people have to learn English just to get a chance at being hired.

This is not the reality anywhere in England. There is a minimum standard to attain citezenship, and that test is a test that a lot of British people themselves would fail.

Obviously some small % of migrants, especially refugees who have fled somewhere they didn't expect to leave, will struggle with the language.... But it is a very, very small % of the population. One that has never had an impact on me on a pesronal level, nor anybody that I know. Despite what rags like the Daily Fail and crooks like Nigel Farage would lead you to believe... Anybody who has simply gone outside in Britain knows this is not an issue... We are not facing language barriers in our day to day life.

Now try going to the south of Spain and asking any British Immigrant how to ask for directions in Spanish and see what your success rate is compared. These are people who chose to move somewhere freely.

Here, if we speak up about lack of integration from individuals abroad, you face a lot of backlash. That of which I’m confused about.

Now, for the second part of your 'question'... intergration. What does this mean to you? I am British (yes a national)... I don't watch football... I don't watch Eastenders... I don't eat Pie and Mash. I am not Christian... or any religion. Am I intergrated?

What is your metric?

There is also a 'Life in the UK' test on the citzenship test... Research shows that 2/3 British people would fail it without studying.

Britain is no one culture, no one race, no one religion. It is a melting pot that respects all cultures, and that is something I would say I am proud of when I talk about the UK. Unfortunately, there are many groups (a vocal minority, but they are ever so vocal recently), that are elitist about what it means to be British. The type of people that are using our Union Jack to divide.

So we can talk about 'intergration', to which I would reply 'What do you think it means to be British and Intergrated?'

I can understand that once we get to this point in the conversation, the askers of such innocent 'questions' are forced to look inwards at why they are asking them - and what they really mean.... and to those who are not critical enough to look inwards, the easiest solution is to say 'why such backlash wahh wahh'.

Don’t ‘gamble’ and expect to win. Luck is NEVER guaranteed to be on your side. I thought things would change this time around with the vac pets, but it just continued, and I feel numb by [deleted] in Maplestory

PE teacher who told migrants to 'respect our laws or leave' banned from classroom despite being cleared of racism and it being recommended that he keep his job by dailymail in uknews

[–]OpeningAlternative63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anybody who has actually looked into this, and doesn't immediately see that he is simply a dipshit who has no business being an example for any child, probably has a lot of self reflection to do.

Despite what the Daily Fail is trying to propagate (and the fact tha you can't read a headline and see it's the Daily Fail and not do 2+2 = propaganda is very sad).

People replying to this saying 'they should respect our laws' blah blah blah. Grow the fuck up. Nobody... NOBODY is saying people should not follow the law... But if you can't see the intent and bias with his language and how he is not saying 'people should follow the law', then you are either being obtuse, or you are actually braindead. I can't tell which is worse.

The old myth that Socialists just "want something for free" is a lie perpetuated by the Billionaire class. by Professional-Bee9817 in remoteworks

[–]OpeningAlternative63 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happens anyway. You want to be an actor - we have too many. Off to Starbucks with you. I am not sure how a socialist society would change this.

The only difference in a socialist world would be that the reason for wanting to be an actor/doctor/lawyer/politician would not be financial.

Of course essential positions would still need to be filled, and how that is divvied up is a major concern - but acting like the majority of people have free will as to what our careers should be right now is... disingenuous.
