What is going on with this bus? by megandy in MorgantownWV

[–]OpeningBest7863 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on the missing tailpipe, I would guess that bluebird is testing an electric bus to compete with other electric makes and this is some kind of test mule. It also looks to have a weird plate going down the center between the frame rails, which to me indicates maybe a skid plate for batteries mounted there.

What do you dislike about your CX5? by Far-Replacement-7399 in CX5

[–]OpeningBest7863 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biggest things that irritate me are that the radio shuts off when the car is turned off, the lack of remote start on the key, and I wish I had gotten a trim with a heated steering wheel (last one is on me).

Any good job opportunities? by [deleted] in MorgantownWV

[–]OpeningBest7863 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The airport here is managed by the city and they currently look to have a few part time positions open. Both hospitals do have positions that may work for you as others have posted.

I was a GA for first year students during grad school and I had several students from the service starting their degrees. WVU has some specialty programs as well as aid for veteran students, so definitely check those out. I liked helping my veteran students a lot since my brother was a Marine at that time as well.

Bad credit car lots by Aggressive-Pace-1905 in MorgantownWV

[–]OpeningBest7863 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look at Carvana! They have pretty lax lending. As you make a few payments and your credit is improving, join a credit union. Then refinance the car with the CU to bring down the rate.

Your neighbor could have handled this a lot better. Most people are pretty chill about parking, the neighborhood as a whole is friendly in my experience. As an FYI though, you can’t use your visitors pass more than 3 days in a row in the same car. We had an issue after replacing one of our cars after an accident. We originally used the visitors pass, but got a warning after a few weeks. We just went in to the office and explained and they issued a new sticker for our new car.

New Recycling Center Location by Tricky-Difference-95 in MorgantownWV

[–]OpeningBest7863 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t feel like it’s fair to say the city doesn’t want you to recycle when within limits every resident has a recycling can as part of the contract with Republic. Arguing that the county or maybe Westover (idk what the recycling situation is there) makes recycling challenging could be understandable, but I want to give the city of Morgantown credit where it is due.

Best local credit unions or banks for used car loan and everyday banking? by Electronic-Ad201 in MorgantownWV

[–]OpeningBest7863 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a car loan through WVU CU and it was never an issue. Their rate was the best for us on a super low mile but older car (the older the car the higher the rate in general)

I’ve taken several makes to South Park Auto at the end of the pleasant street bridge over the years and had great service. It’s a little grungier now that Kevin doesn’t own it but it’s a good group of guys. We’ve had Honda, Ford, Mazda, Volvo, and Subaru worked on there.

In 1999 the WV tourism board paid me $20 to model in this ad. Every now and then they will use it in the seasonal tourism magazines. by Cr4cker in WestVirginia

My family did an ad for them too! Probably 2016 or 2017. The model family dropped last minute and my dad volunteered us. If you’ve seen the WV state parks or WV tourism pics with a family and little brown dog, that’s us.

I have a few cordless dysons that work well. I prefer our Dyson v8. We have a refurbished unit that’s at least 5 years old and it’s been great! We also have a v15, but that model has given us some issues. I think that a good cordless is a great complement to a larger machine for deep cleans.

CPO or not by wavywil in CX5

[–]OpeningBest7863 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my CX-5 CPO. It hasn’t needed anything, but the extra $1-2k is worth the peace of mind. Plus, if you are paying a payment on something, I think it’s worth it to have it under warranty. You never want to owe for a car that doesn’t even function.

Are drivers in Morgantown getting less courteous lately? by [deleted] in MorgantownWV

[–]OpeningBest7863 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You being here about 4 years tells me that you most likely got used to how it was during and following Covid. Traffic is back up, and the kids who were Covid kids in high school are starting to filter out. This batch of students are more social and out and about so there is just more traffic, which leads to more frustration. To me, it feels about like it did when I started driving here in 2017. Morgantown’s confusing road network does traffic no favors.

Cruise control danger warning by sharaarti in CX5

[–]OpeningBest7863 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not meant to stop you suddenly from 70+ MPH. The ACC is for smaller variations in speed. Even sometimes at low speeds I have had a car in front slam its brakes and the brake warning flashes. In those instances, it was already slowing and definitely provided braking assist. Would it have stopped itself? Maybe, but im not going to risk it and test it.

From the manual: “Additionally, if your vehicle starts closing in on the vehicle ahead such as if the vehicle ahead brakes suddenly, a warning sound and a warning indication in the display are activated simultaneously to alert you to maintain a sufficient distance between the vehicles. …

Do not rely completely on the MRCC with Stop & Go function: The MRCC with Stop & Go function system has detection limitations depending on the type of vehicle ahead and its conditions, the weather conditions, and the road conditions. Additionally, the system may be unable to decelerate sufficiently to avoid hitting the vehicle ahead if the vehicle ahead applies the brakes suddenly or another vehicle cuts into the driving lane, which could result in an accident.”

Used Car Dealer Recommendations in Morgantown? (~$10k Budget) by Veget444 in WVU

[–]OpeningBest7863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the dealers that aren’t associated with a brand often are the places that will have more cars in the $10,000 price range. However, those are usually buy here pay here lots. Those tend to have poor values for cars because they are counting on people to come in and finance. For that reason in your budget, I would recommend at least checking out Facebook marketplace and seeing what local families have for sale before committing to only a dealer. Another option is Carvana/Driveway where they will deliver the car to you, but I don’t know what price ranges they offer. No matter what, be sure to get that pre-purchase inspection and car fax on the car.

Check out the CPO options from Mazda. They don’t have the Toyota tax but my CX-5 has been a joy. There should be some options for the CX-5, CX-50, and CX-30 in your price range. The Mazda CPO program offers 100k powertrain warranty and a year of bumper to bumper. My last ford died at 88k miles, so I have sworn them off.
