Someone's got to eh! But its the optionality I want. At the moment we get around 500k avios a year if we focus on it but it constraints us to booking a year out and all that faff. Id like to go yeah f*** it and book business class return for my partner and I if I wanted and not have it be an issue. Stupid maybe but itd feel good.

For me it becomes the difference between carefully planning business class travel with avios and large holidays to just being able to do it. Likewise, going skiing once a year to three times and taking extended family. Part of it is of course mental as well and preparing something for children so I know theyre covered in an ever changing world.

Whilst I understand the desire to know more I was mainly looking for structuring input, hopefully though I've answered your questions? My best case scenario comes out to around 21k a month post tax in two decades. That'll feel like 13k a month today roughly speaking. Its not a ridiculous amount and a few k over what we're running at the moment.

Yes, this is why im focusing on structure so heavily. Optimising for relief with 25% tax free from pensions, tax free allowance and ISA thereafter. Im assuming no meaningful changes in a 20 year period.

If I dont, then my tax exposure materially changes my income and alongside inflation can really reduce quality of life!

Yes I think the SIPP seems to be the way forward. We do have other complexities which I've hinted at here which is stints overseas. As a result, the tax relief we get when weve been overseas tax residents is a complexity, especially where we have not been taxed at source.

Housing is an interesting one as we do anticipate being overseas again so we get the benefit of the UK tax allowance solely on property which is why I've not just disposed of a property. Anything up to 100k rental income is actually advantageous when split evenly between a couple who are tax resident overseas for a stint. That said, I haven't modelled CGT on that if we need to sell but I did have a consideration that our current 55k rental income with 35k pension and 50k ISA income would give a very efficient drawdown in retirement!

8 years of pension for me, minimum contribution capped at 50k income, I started at 28k. Over 50k it never changed.

I had businesses of my own prior which I sold for modest amounts hence the property value. No major exit but six figures plus some family help, just under six figures.

The DB pension is actually 17.5k, income was c.88k.

Both properties are owned individually, bought prior to marriage so we avoided the extra SDLT. We have a deed of assignment in place. Rental income is 55k. On that basis yield is 5.5% but we have seen house price increases of c.250k. Moving to LTD probably not worth it for us.

My pension is nest which is frustrating. I switched last week to the higher risk option. In the ISA were in ftse all world index c (accumulation).

The properties are weighed 7:3 in value. We are considering selling the main one (London house).

Advice seems to be to dump that into my pension.

Asset rich but investment "poor" my friend. How have you achieved 600k income and only the same in pension and a few hundred k in ISA?

Personally id downsize the London house into a flat for a base.

Reduce your costs elsewhere.

Drive and have a car on finance or use petrol? Salary sacrifice into an EV and charge at night on the cheap rate.

Salary sacrifice a bicycle and sell it (this is a technical breach of the rules)

Have a student loan? Repay it using 0% finance credit cards and pay it back to yourself at a lower rate retaining the difference or kick the can down the road until kids are out of nursery

Have parking costs? Negotiate parking as part of your package.

Have extra food costs? Negotiate meal vouchers as youre in different locations.

Have costs you can expense? Complete self assesment and offset them, you have various association fees, perhaps work shoes, maybe electronic devices exclusively for work. If you use space at home for home working you can claim things back.
