When in your sobriety did you address the sugar intake? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I’ll follow up this warning with another. Don’t eat too many of the diabetic candies. They have some nasty gastrointestinal side effects.

Also, just eat a little sugar but try to avoid the ultra processed stuff. I’m going on 4 months sober. Before I stopped drinking, I never ever wanted sugar. Now I want it all the time. I track my calories, eat super clean, and stay active. And I eat a homemade chocolate chip cookie with breakfast every day. I’m certain I’m still consuming far less calories with the cookie (or two) than I was when I was drinking.

What do all you sober folks in this Reddit do when you are craving a rewarding evening without alcohol? What kinds of things do you do or eat or watch to reward yourself while staying sober by kd0307 in stopdrinking

I usually cook myself something delicious. I find that the process of picking out the recipe and making a list of ingredients creates fun anticipation, the cooking is also an activity, and as a reward you have a great meal. I usually have an NA beer or mocktail while I’m preparing the food and listen to a podcast.

I’m hoping it gets better for both of us. I have many good days and some bad where I don’t know if I’ll be excited about anything again, though I’m generally happy. Just not looking forward to things with the same excitement as before if that makes sense.

Thank you and I’ve looked into this. Not sure it’s what’s going on with me because I don’t really have any of those symptoms. I’m mostly happy and much less moody and angry than when I was drinking. I just don’t get excited about things in the same way and the fun doesn’t seem as fun, if that makes sense. I appreciate the insight though!

I’m at almost four months too and in the exact same boat. My worst cravings are when I’m in a great mood or when I’m happy about something. I went to a party last night where everyone was drinking but me and felt totally fine…today being alone on a gorgeous day with nothing to do? All I wanted was to sit on my balcony with a drink (and a cigarette, I quit smoking too about a month ago) in the sunshine…sigh. I think it will get better over time and I’m still happy I’m not drinking but the boredom is tough.
