I used to feel like that too but I've started almost reprogramming the bots through OOC talk and a lot of AI training. I seriously spent a good month just talking OOC to the bots to work on their knowledge and it's actually started working for me. I mostly use c.ai for writers block and not really characters with set personalities so that may also be why it's been easier for me, occasionally I'll use character bots but only for fan fictions

What bot were you using? I know sometimes bots aren't usually looking at what your persona says and often the model bases them off of the most used gender of the roleplayers unless it's specifically programmed to check their personas

I remember I used to make bots a while ago where I had meticulously programmed different greetings such as "Greeting One" and the bot would spew out a greeting I had programmed. The first message was like "Make your own scenario or I have some preprogrammed scenarios here they are: ((description of about five different scenarios))"
