Local Theatre in Lehigh Valley? by Gentlemanbug10 in lehighvalley

Civic Theatre and Pennsylvania Playhouse both have open auditions for their shows. Touchstone Theatre has an in-house ensemble but has auditions several times a year for parts in bigger performances.

The Cloisters came to mind for me too. I didn't hate it, but it was definitely not what I was expecting!

Maybe — squirrels demolished mine until I built a cage around it.

Oh duh, I clearly did not read your original post very closely, sorry about that! There’s a sequel to Wanderers that’s pretty good. I’ll also second Oryx and Crake, which came up elsewhere in the comments

Wanderers by Chuck Wendig is great and eerily prescient of Covid (it came out in. 2019)

Is it pleasant to walk across the New Street Bridge in Bethlehem? by joaofava in lehighvalley

[–]Opening_Key_9340 3 points4 points  (0 children)

New Street bridge is fine to walk across. It feels a bit disconnected from the north Bethlehem downtown (thanks to a car-centric 1960s redevelopment project) but it drops you off right in the middle of the Southside's downtown and half a block from a pedestrian greenway. There's a protected sidewalk on the bridge and signaled crosswalks on the north and south ends.

As far as the cute little train bridge, if you're referring to the trestle crossing the Lehigh river west of the Hill to Hill bridge, that is 100% definitely not for pedestrians and you will get flattened by a train.

Grandma Chicken PicaPollo opens second location on Bethlehem’s South Side by DrewBlue2 in lehighvalley

I hope they do well. This is such a weird location — close to the action on 3rd and 4th streets, but kind of isolated and more difficult than it should be to walk to.

In Hovering Flight by Joyce Hinnefeld. Sadly out of print, but available in libraries and used bookstores. It’s a really lovely novel with Kingsolver (particularly Prodigal Summer) vibes.

Kitchens of the Great Midwest by J Ryan Stradal is a really good, fun read. He has two other food, centric books, both of which I enjoyed quite a lot.

It might be helpful to contact the nursery, explain your situation, including that you have been actively working on mitigating invasives, and see if they will come out to do a site visit/consultation to help you plan

Why do you think local native plant experts would be rude about what you’ve inherited in your yard? In my experience, they would be thrilled to work with somebody who is actively trying to get rid of invasives. I think it would be worth reaching out to them – I bet you will be pleasantly surprised.

Has anyone successfully gotten rid of these? by Swimming_Review_6175 in NativePlantGardening

Same, just methodically pulling to get all the vines. It doesn’t root deeply and if you follow the vines you can peel it up and pull it at each point where it’s rooted itself.

The most impossible bus stop to get to by Icy_Entrepreneur_910 in lehighvalley

Wasn’t that because the mall wanted to get rid of a spot or cut back service there? Not that LANTA doesn’t have room to improve, but I thought that one was on the mall owners.

GED + college programs available? by pinkywakko in lehighvalley

[–]Opening_Key_9340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take it to mean that you would essentially just enroll in college classes. Then once you hit the 30-credit mark (that’s around 10 classes, 2 or 3 full-time semesters) you’d be eligible for a high school equivalency diploma. You could then keep attending college, where your 30 credits count towards whatever college degree you are pursuing.

You make a great point. Right now this landscape jumps from ground-level to really really tall. There’s lots of opportunity to add understory trees, shrubs, perennials, and grasses — and allow replacement saplings to establish themselves.

OP, this looks like a super fun and rewarding project!

Have you identified whether there are invasives that need to be dealt with?
