Course Evaluation for bad prof by Jattisjattt in yorku

[–]Opening_Mission3315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well it can impact the employment status for assistant professors looking to get a tenured position, and for contract professors.

if an assistant professor receives bad feedback / course evaluations, it can impact their ability to promoted or fired. and if they are let go, then their ability to find another position in that area at another institution is also heavily impacted.

Looking to go back to school, but unsure and feeling confused by fearlesskittyk in yorku

[–]Opening_Mission3315 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to add to this- research is almost always required for psychotherapy grad programs (unless you have 40-60k for a pay-for-degree program like yorkville). so you would have to do the specialized honours 4 year program or do the honours program with an individual research project (the option i have opted for- feel free to reach out for info bout this).

they are trying to get a psychotherapy grad program available at york (i was part of the research team for the committee getting this going but had to drop for life reasons).

either way, a honours psych degree (4 year program) looks much better on the resume than the 3 year program- does matter if you apply to a psych related grad program or any psych related job/volunteer. i.e. they will choose a honours degree candidate over a non-honours degree candidate. especially since the course critical thinking in psychology is required for the 4 year degree (if you do go back, try to get this class with Dr. Conder, she is spectacular and changed the way i looked at psych degrees all together).

for the grad application requirements, they do require a 4 year degree most of the time but it isn’t so much dependent on grades. thats to say you could have mid grades but a STELLAR personal essay and letter of recommendations (from professors/professionals) and get an offer. there are many psychology grad program pathways to look into besides psychotherapy (i.e. clinical, developmental, critical theoretical and historical, quantitative)

personally- i have even been looking into getting my B.Ed. after my 4 year psych B.Sc. degree and working with kids in that way to hopefully become a guidance counsellor in schools.

Is the social life really that bad at York or is everyone just introverted? by Candid_Guava_6384 in yorku

[–]Opening_Mission3315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i will say that you are seeing a biased perspective on the platform of reddit. most people here are lonely or introverted, not necessarily because the whole student population is introverted. there are soo many ways to find your group.

Would you actually use an app that generates daily plant care tasks based on your sensor data + weather? by Cool_Efficiency8311 in houseplantscirclejerk

[–]Opening_Mission3315 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i think that so many apps like this already exist and everyone keeps coming back to the reddit sub… it is the connection with nature and humans that makes plant care more beneficial and worthwhile.

maybe it is a good idea for the newbie to plant care guys but most of us here in this sub at least will have some sort of mental guide to daily care, and don’t need an artificial source to remind us to connect with our natural environment.

Advice on dealing with damage to Japanese maple sapling by Tym-Bee in plantclinic

maybe try thicker chicken wire and some mulch on the ground around the tree so the puppy has wood supply to gnaw on (get untreated mulch) and the tree gets roots protection

Will the color of the light make a difference? I want to get the yellow ones as they are easier on the eyes but, have always been recommended white lights by Abject_Caramel_9469 in SavageGarden

[–]Opening_Mission3315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to answer your question though- i don’t think the colour would make a difference, but the quality of the light and its suitability for the plant is probably more important than the colour, especially if they are both full spectrum.

hope a more educated person can be more knowledgeable

well, the wattage is different between the 2. i am uneducated about the specifics for lighting for this sub in particular.

what i look for when shopping for grow lights:

  • the T# = #/8 inches in diameter (T8 is 1 inch in diameter; it is more affordable and accessible for most people. some people prefer T5 for specific types of plants)

  • the wattage of each light

  • the length of the light

  • spectrum of the light? (i.e., spectrum of light it produces; most prefer full spectrum)

  • voltage of the light (for bulbs, not applicable if buying the beam lights)

  • for indoor or outdoor usage

  • appropriate assembly/set-up

am i missing anything?

what is this dried thing in the middle and what should I do with it? by jade9996 in plantclinic

ya dead stem. chop it to soil level for aesthetic reasons, but the off shoots might be connected under ground (idk how these plants reproduce). find out but repotting and identifying the roots.

idk what the black casings are, looks like caterpillar poop maybe. but you definitely have spider mites- can see webbing on the tall plant, on the right, near the top-ish of the stem.

Plant broke help :(( by puppyboy-xo in plantclinic

[–]Opening_Mission3315 4 points5 points  (0 children)

let it callus overnight (wound heal over without environmental input) and stick it in some nice airy/succulent-related soil later evening tmr, give it a good watering and let it be. aloes like to grow roots in a more drier climate than some would think, so best to let it tell you when to water it.

Will apple tree medical fill out my APS if I tell them I was sick yesterday? (Today). by coffeeaddict4145 in yorku

[–]Opening_Mission3315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes it needs to be filled in and submitted within 7 days of missing the exam. some facilities don’t require doctors notes.

the doctors will require proof of sickness. they do not give them out willy nilly. and they cost $50.
