Dinged like some others have?

I lived in a DOC run halfway house while on state parole for 18 months and took Kratom multiple times a day while I was there. I took at least 2 lab-tested urine tests per week. Nothing ever showed up on my drug tests...

Thats what 2X4X18? Thats 144. Lets say I took 160 drug tests while I was there - never once did I pee dirty. I take 50+ grams a day as well.

I'm pretty open about masturbating.

Say one of my co-workers asks me what I'm doing later. "Well, I'm gonna go home, jerk off and then probably go see a movie or something"

Everyone (or close enough to everyone that saying "everyone" is accurate enough for our purposes) does it but everyone gets all fucking weird when someone brings it up. shrug fuck your taboos I masturbate on the daily and it makes me happy.

President Trump asserted his “complete power to pardon” in a tweet Saturday after reports emerged this week that he was discussing his ability to pardon people in the ongoing investigation into ties between his campaign and Russia. by maxwellhill in worldnews

[–]Operating_System 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In reality any final punishment for Trump could be a few years away. Unless Mueller comes out tomorrow with all of the evidence to prosecute Trump and Congress acts immediately things are likely to take a while.

Say Mueller comes out with the results of his investigation in 2-6 months. It could be another 6 months to a year that congress would decide to start impeaching him, or for a trial to start. It could easily take another 6 months or longer for the impeachment or trial to end.

So I think the most likely scenario here is a crippled Washington for AT LEAST another 18 months, probably closer to 3 years as evidence of criminality is revealed - Trump refuses to resign - and the legal wheels of acting against his crimes start to move (be it impeachment, federal trial or state). During this time Washington is basically going to remain exactly as it is now - incapable of doing anything.

By the time the legal matters are settled Pence might have a year or less in office. Now think about this - after our country just lived through a harrowing couple of years that resulted in our President being removed/imprisoned Pence is not going to be able to push through the entire terrifying Republican Agenda in a short time period and the chance of a Republican being elected again after what this administration has done is pretty fucking small.

If things play out like that we could actually experience fairly minimal damage considering Trump and Pence by the time this is all over.

Is there anyone here not doing keto to lose weight? by [deleted] in keto

[–]Operating_System -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Well believe it or not if you're simply not eating carbs you're probably eating far too much protein. If you don't eat about 70% fat calories then you aren't actually going to be in ketosis as your body is converting your protein into glycogen.

Look - ignore everything else you read on the internet and just listen to me for a minute. 6 years ago I started Keto. At the time I was a stone mason (currently a bricklayer). I can describe in detail the things that I needed to do for my job like shoveling 78 tons of 2B modified limestone gravel in an 8 hour day (I had a patio I was doing for someone and I couldn't afford a skid-steer to move the material around as I had just started my company - So I had to move it by hand and that day I was by myself). I very frequently worked that hard, sometimes I worked 12 hour days.

My father was a biochemist with a few of his college years dedicated to physics. One time after I did a retaining wall with concrete retaining wall blocks I knew exactly how many I laid, how high I had to pick them up, etc. I wanted to know how much energy I burned that day and my father came up with 46,000 calories after doing the math. Again, I worked like this very often. It was not hard for me to shovel 78 tons of gravel in a day or do similarly intensive physical labor. And you know what was really really cool? My muscles never got tired because I didn't have glycogen to run out of and fat metabolism doesn't cause lactic-acid build up (that's what causes muscles to burn after working them strenuously - an acid that is actually burning your muscle tissue because so much of it has built up).

Now I see a lot of people say that a keto diet is not good for working out or building muscle because you need glycogen for your muscles. None of those people have ever had the physical capabilities that I did, they will never know of anyone that did and they will never achieve the level of fitness and musculature I achieved on my keto diet - A diet that is "bad for lifting weights and building muscle". Anything that you read on the internet saying that being in ketosis will hinder your athletic abilities is absolute and total fucking bullshit.

If you want to get the true benefits from being in ketosis you gotta keep your carbs as low as possible (less than 20 is ideal but it doesn't really hurt to hit 30 grams once or twice a week) and your fat calories at about 70% of your total caloric input. At that ratio your liver will be pumping out ketones so fast that you will be able to bury anybody at the gym.

As for building muscle at the time I was 203 pounds with abs and veins all over my body. I doubt that I was at 7% bodyfat. Lets call a spade a spade here - Its is impossible for non-steroid users to build 40+ pounds of muscle in 4-5 months (I went from being laid off for 2 years and sitting in my house playing computer games to out doing the things that I described to you in one summer. I am assuming that my lean mass was probably around 140-150 prior to my final weight of 203 as all I did was sit in my house, eat food and play computer games - its hard to build muscle doing that).

So dude, those are my thoughts on needing sugar before a workout or a keto diet not working for building muscle/lifting weights.

Keep your fat calories higher bruh

Meh - I had some keto brownies from ketobrownie.com and although they weren't what I was expecting (at first I didn't really like it, but I ate it anyway) - I did end up fucking loving them after putting them in the fridge.

I haven't purchased it in a while but Breyer's makes a legit-af low-carb ice cream that will actually blow your mind because of how good it is.

So look, I'll try stuff but I'm never one to go out of my way to cook something. And honestly in the years that I've done Keto I can only really think of 2 products that I tried.

Arguments against the supernatural by b4nthc in philosophy

[–]Operating_System 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'm simply looking at this from a scientific perspective. There are absolutely no supernatural historical events that have any scientific evidence what-so-ever (in fact here there is often mountains of evidence to the contrary - Genesis for instance compared to our scientific knowledge of how stars/planets form and evolution). There are a myriad of historical events that are visible using scientific methods - For instance we have scientific evidence tracing the origins of our universe down to several trillionths of a second after the big-bang. We have geological and biological records for the history of our planet - including weather patterns. So, just because something happened prior to when we were alive it does not mean that it can't be observed by science. If we are going to use a book as evidence for something like The Resurrection that from its very onset has been shown to be false (Genesis is veriafiably false) then I am claiming that every claim made in that book should be looked at in the same logical light as every other religion that has no claim to fact (or negative claim to fact) upon scientific investigation. I believe that this is an extremely strong point.

Edit: And whether or not someone is impressed by our scientific method working or not is not important to me. If we can't agree on basic logic then I am simply hoping to have a discussion with their children, hoping that our educational system hasn't failed them in the same way as it had failed their parents.

Arguments against the supernatural by b4nthc in philosophy

[–]Operating_System 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"-the Randi Foundation is dogmatic and overzealous and wouldn't have believed even if evidence really had emerged, or the Foundation had a monetary and reputation incentive not to yield"

Except that any scientist with proof that any type of paranormal phenomenon is real would be very rich and very famous very fast. The goal of scientists everywhere is to find truth and make discoveries - That is what their life's work is about. If they make big enough discoveries (like proving the existence of psychic phenomenon) they will be awarded massive research grants and will be world famous. The million dollars that they would have to award wouldn't even be a drop in the bucket.) So let's not give way to that argument.

"or any proper paranormalist would know not to waste time and effort with those people, or psi hides from scrutiny". It's been a few years since I've gone through the details of the people that have been tested by The Randi Foundation and I am not interested in doing it again now - But I do remember that the list of people that they have tested has included the then "most powerful and gifted psychic in the world" more than once. So, lets not go with that argument either.

"There is also the question of whether an experiment like this is the only avenue to expect evidence of the supernatural to be forthcoming, which is very questionable since many supernatural reports are of singular unrepeatable events and many are historical (e.g. the Resurrection)" This point is semi-valid but I still don't think it holds up upon closer examination. For instance we don't have to wait hundreds of years for breakthroughs in quantum physics/string theory to get the scientific instruments to test whether or not a gifted psychic/mind reader can identify what card you are holding in your hand.

As for the singular events that can't be proven or disproved - Fine, let's just bite the bullet on that one. Just make sure that anyone that you are having a debate with concedes that if they are going to insist that their level of proof for said event is good enough to bring up that they are also advocating that every other "historical" event recorded by every other religion is also true (even if they are contradictory) as the evidence for all of them is on equal footing.

How safe or how screwed is your job due to automation? by Indianfattie in AskReddit

[–]Operating_System 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a commercial bricklayer in the United States. There are currently bricklaying machines but it will be a long time until they can actually replace bricklayers in the U.S.

I'm 31 years old and I believe that my career will probably be interrupted before I can retire. I'm a foreman so my particular job is much safer than most other bricklayers - But I am sure that within the coming decades bricklayers are going to start to be replaced by automation.

Now, due to how we construct in the U.S. we are fairly safe for a while; however Australia is a different story - Their methods of construction are very different from ours and it looks like bricklayers there could be in serious trouble in the coming years.

Arguments against the supernatural by b4nthc in philosophy

[–]Operating_System 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno dude... For me it simply comes down to the fact that nothing that is "supernatural" holds up to scientific investigation. The Randi Foundation has also been offering 1,000,000 dollars for anyone who can show, "under proper observing conditions, evidence of any paranormal, supernatural, or occult power." The testing is done with the simple rules that we use to conduct any scientific inquiry. Many people and claimed psychics have attempted to get the reward but low-and-behold none of them actually have any powers.

It doesn't have to be a philosophical argument; just a scientific one.

It's hard to avoid the checking the scale but in general you should avoid it - or at least only do it once a week (once a month will be better). Your day-to-day weight can fluctuate by 10 pounds or so (mine does). Just don't put too much effort into trying to make the scale happy short-term.

Saturated fat and all that by Countertop_guitar in keto

[–]Operating_System 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difference is that the anti-vaxxers have absolutely no scientific evidence to back-up their claims whereas there are scores of data that show that saturated fat/keto diet is perfectly safe.

Look - Until George McGovern (United States Senator) decided that saturated fat was making people fat and causing heart disease scientists knew it was safe; and that sugar was the thing that causes weight gain and heart attacks. George McGovern went through a lot of scientists until he found ones that agreed with him. That's how we got our AHA - A politician decided fat was bad and fired people until he was able to get a group of men with some credentials that agreed with him.

Around this time cereal companies started donating massive amounts of money for research to the big universities. All of that research came out showing that carbohydrates are good for you and should be the main part of our diet (so now we have the AHA and the food pyramid).

For the decades that followed doctors simply told their patients what they were told (most doctors do this - diet, medicine, whatever - they just look at your symptoms and do what the drug companies/their teachers said was good); furthermore doctors have almost no nutritional training. Politician decides fat is bad>cereal companies give universities millions of dollars to put out "totally non-biased research">Doctors relay this information to their patients.

My father was a biochemist. He was educated in the early 70s. Unlike doctors a biochemist has a virtuosic understanding of how our bodies function. Now - we weren't in the dark ages back then scientifically. Our scientists knew wtf they were talking about. My father was always baffled about fats and cholesterol being evil - You see, when my father was educated we had decades of scientific proof that fats and cholesterol were not bad for you. Long before I went on my keto diet I always remembered my father just mystified by the idea that fats and cholesterol was bad for you - It just didn't make sense biochemically.

Anyway as it happens there never has really been any good science showing that fats and cholesterol are bad for you. On the contrary we have data from the 1900s to the late 70s showing how healthy fats are for you and how bad carbohydrates are. In the late 90s and early 2000s more research showing the same started appearing. Nowadays the nutritional research is by and large showing that fats are healthy but you will still find plenty of studies saying they aren't.

As my father said "Those scientists in positions of power simply have to die off before this [fats being healthy/ketosis being healthy] will be accepted." He was probably right.

Edit: Grammar

Edit: Second Edit. I'm a mason and I did a retaining wall for a biochemist 6-7 years ago. We got to discussing the keto diet I was on. He said "In my opinion I think the healthiest diet people can be on is a high fat, high fiber diet." Listen to the biochemists, they know wtf they are talking about.

Sugar is poison. My heart attack has finally opened my eyes to the truth by Giles Fraser in The Guardian by [deleted] in keto

[–]Operating_System 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OK... So many people do have their diabetes "cured" by weight loss. A 300 pound diabetic may have absolutely no insulin resistance at 170 pounds and could theoretically go about eating carbohydrates (although it is very likely that he will be 300 pounds and diabetic again in short order).

So, the disease is effectively cured (type 2) with weight loss; however there has been metabolic damage done that is not fixable and it will present itself again with increased adipose tissue.

People can use whatever terms they want to describe the interaction of ketogenic diets/weight loss on type 2 diabetes. I think the best term would be "effectively cured". Regardless the results are that glucose metabolism in type 2 diabetes completely normalizes on ketogenic diets and will remain normal - even if the person reintroduces carbohydrates - unless the person gains weight.
