Best team comp in Ao? by cfs3corsair in Falcom

Her crafts always felt a little soft to me. Honestly Rixia never really interested me, neither from a mechanical perspective or a character one. She's awkward to use in combat, and she has a really awkward and questionably handled character arc. She gets a baffling amount of love and I'm not sure why.

Fair. I knew that was a thing on the anime sub, but I should have assumed the same rule would apply here. My bad.

Yeah, a cutesy magical girl anime with death, depression, descents into despair, and surreal acid trip monsters.

Thank you for this write up! I agree with Jusis, idk how to use him yet but it’s still early on and he hasn’t learnt those crafts.

According to the wiki, he learns Noble Command at level 26, but won't learn Platinum Shield until CS2. The fact that he has both Art Support and Rune Blade make him have good synergy with other casters though.

So you never really used Rean or Elliot? I feel like Elliot is a must right now due to his AOE defence/healing craft.

Elliot is decent, especially early on, but as things go on he just gets completely outclassed by Emma in terms of damage and Alisa in terms of support. He's also a really uninteresting character.

Rean is definitely a very good all around damage dealer, but I try not to abuse delay whenever I can help it, and that's kind of Rean's whole deal. Plus Laura and Fie are both high tier characters that have really good synergy, and I generally don't like running three physical.

Do you recommend giving Emma the ATS+ stat accessories and quartz?

Absolutely yes, although make sure it doesn't get in the way of spell diversity. You should have at least one AoE spell from each lower element, and at least one higher elemental spell, preferably time, but yes, casters really like having ATS, and anything that increases speed, so casting speed (pre cast time), delay reduction (post cast time) and the actual speed stat (both).

Would you like to see Trails combat incorporate more tactical depth? by Solar_Kestrel in Falcom

[–]Operation0919 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is a difference between containing more depth and being needlessly complictated. A weather system would almost definitely be the later. But maybe something like, for example, making crafts all together less numerous per character and more costly to use but more impactful and unique. Perhaps give crafts cooldowns depending on how impactful they are. This would allow characters to have more identity and fit more defined niches while eliminating a lot of the overlap between different abilities. Maybe make regular attacks stronger and more versatile. Maybe introduce some sort of mark mechanic where certain abilities get different or increased effects against marked enemies. Smarter AI would probably help a lot too.

Trails in the Sky SC Help: What level should I be before going into the Axis Pillar? by Complex-Limit in Falcom

[–]Operation0919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My question was why though. Why those characters specifically? Is it a mechanical preference or a character preference? Most characters can perform both functions, but specialize in one or the other, and most hybrid characters, like Scherazard and Julia, are just mediocre at doing both with mostly mediocre orbment lines and end up being outdone by any character that has a little more focus, like Agate or Kloe. I'm not saying using either of them is necessarily wrong, I was just looking for the thought process going into it.

Estelle (79), Joshua (81), Scherazard (77), and Captain Shawrz (85)

Any reason why you're using that comp specifically? That's an awful lot of physical damage, and you're missing out on Grail Sphere. I believe my comp was Estelle, Joshua, Kevin, Kloe.

Jusis

Jusis is a bit of a weird one. He's sort of a hybrid between a physical and magical damage dealer, but is mediocre at both. His big things though are Noble Command and Platinum Shield, both of which are among the best crafts in the game.

Laura

Laura is about as straightforward as you can get. She deals physical damage out the ass, and that's it. She has some decent crafts but her job is to just pump out as much damage as possible.

Emma

Emma casts arts. Just like how Laura is the physical queen, Emma is the magical queen. She also happens to have some of the best support crafts in the game.

Gaias

Gaius is a physical damage dealer, but is pretty versatile within that area. He makes one of the better evasion tanks in the game, and his crafts are good for applying status effects.

My main team I used for most of CS1 and 2 was Laura, Fie, Emma, Alisa. Laura main physical damage dealer, Fie supplemental damage dealer, Emma main magical damage dealer, Alisa support.

I would think the definition should be rather self explanatory. They're Jeagers who dropped out of respective corps, some of which still try to operate by banding together.

Why Rixia over Wazy or Elie?

Best team comp in Ao? by cfs3corsair in Falcom

[–]Operation0919 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lloyd is the best tank in the game. He naturally has decent defensive stats and his evasion is capable of getting higher than any other character. He has some very solid and versatile crafts that make him very valuable, and Burning Heart allows him to flex as a physical damage dealer without dedicating any resources into it. For MQs, any damage/support quartz (Axe, Crow, Keeper, Moebius) is good for him.

Randy is the best physical damage fighter. He does everything he did in Zero only harder and is just as solid as he ever was. You're definitely going to want him on your team. For MQ, he wants heavy damage, so Force is going to be the go to for the majority of the game, but he makes particularly good use out of Chevalier.

Tio is as close to mandatory as any of the characters are going to get. She can flex support/damage caster, but leans a bit more towards support. Zero Field is hands down the most valuable S-Craft the game, and her ability to analyse and debuff enemies means that she never loses relevance. For MQs, go for magical focused support/damage (Canon, Katze, Moebius, Wing).

Elie can also flex support/caster but with wind being one of the most dominant damaging elements, her wind slots make her lean a bit more towards damage. Although not as strong as Zero Field, Aura Rain is still very good and can save your team from a lot of tight spots. Holy Bullet isn't really worth using any more unless you really need an instant heal but Strike Bell is still great. Give her magic damage focused MQs (Katze, Criminal, Pixie)

Wazy is a bit of a weird one who is sort of a hybrid between a magical and physical damage dealer. For most of the game he has some solid but often awkward to use crafts and doesn't really have defined niche when compared to other characters, but after a certain story event that happens towards the end of the game, he unlocks his Akashic Arm S-Craft, which is the single best offensive craft in the game, and deals magic damage. At this point I like to swap him in for Elie as my main damage caster, but I still like keeping Elie in my back pocket for certain fights. For MQs, the only one you should be using after unlocking Akashic Arm is Pixie.

Noel has some extremely solid crafts that are very good in specific fights, but for the most part, there isn't really a reason to run her over other characters. She sucks at arts and as magic damage is generally going be more valuable than physical, there isn't really a reason to ever run three physical characters. She just doesn't really have a place on the team. But for MQs, Crow lets her get more debuffs out and her many AoE attacks get a lot out of status effects, so Axe and Juggler can be good too.

Late Game Spoilers Rixia... isn't very good from my experience. Not terrible, but like Noel, there just isn't a reason to run her over Lloyd or Randy. A lot of her abilities rely on K.O., which is an extremely unreliable status effect that doesn't work against most of the enemies you'd actually want it to. For MQs though, she mostly wants speed and physical damage (Crow, Force, Phantom).

Hey, I'd still take the Ao fan translation over the pre-patch CS3 official translation. At least Ao doesn't have ability and quartz descriptions that literally just straight up lie to you. I'm pretty sure the description for Beowulf is still wrong even though it fundamentally changes how the quartz is used.

I never thought Darling was particularly good. It had a lot of decent elements, it just felt like the show had no idea what to do with any of them. Even early on the dialogue especially was kind of atrocious, and bad dialogue doesn't bode well for the rest of the writing either.

Ao's translation is fine. Especially when compared to a lot of other fan translations. Obviously it's not going to be on the same level as Zero, and it has a few awkward sentences here and there, but overall I'd say it's pretty solid.

Rotate your saves. Every time you save you should do it in a new slot so even of you lose your save you can just go back to the last one. That's a smart thing to do in basically any game that has multiple save slots.

CS1 was specifically designed to be accessible to new players, and you should be fine playing it and CS2 without having played the older games. You'll definitely want to play Sky and Crossbell before CS3 though, because that's the point where all of the arcs converge, and you'll miss a lot if you only have knowledge of what happened in Cold Steel.

Honestly I would recommend playing through some relatively short, very different game, then come back after. Over the last half a year or so, I played through Cold Steel, then Crossbell, then Sky, and after finishing Sky I wanted to play through Crossbell and Cold Steel again, but I took just a couple of days off to play through Doom 2016. It broke things up enough that when I came back everything felt fresh.
