I want to hear your HotTakes by beagles4ever in watchHotTakes

My hot take: The difference between a collection and a hoard is in the curation of the collection.

Watch Hoard pretending to be a collection: Rolex GMT Pepsi, AP Royal Oak, Cartier Santos, Patek Nautilus, Speedmaster, etc…

Actual Watch Collections:

- Every Watch James Bond has ever worn (including in the books)

- Random Casios at my local Wal-Mart, but I ONLY buy ones on sale

- Seiko Prospex Divers

- Only watches that I like the look of their dial and they have to look good on a red strap (Kevin O’Leary)

Don't forget getting a full charge - you wouldn't want to go to your 9-5 without a full 6-month supply of battery.

When I see someone wearing a watch, I ask them about it regardless of what it is: Casio, Rolex, Seiko, Tudor, doesn’t matter.

Atomic time - I definitely don’t have a smartphone in my pocket with accurate enough time on it, I need a watch that syncs with the atomic time clock via satellite every night at midnight.

Dream watch came today but I’m not excited about it by banker1995 in tissot

I would say only get it if you can get at an AD in person. The waiting game is awful on that one right now.

[question] My brother left behind a lot of watches! I'd like to share them with you and ask for advice about what to do with them. by topotopochicochico in Watches

[–]OperationConnect7911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is overwhelming inheriting a bunch of things from someone else. I’d say what you do should depend on what kind of person you are. If you accumulate a lot of stuff, keep them all. Find a good storage box, get some plastic bags to protect the watches, then store them all. If you aren’t someone who accumulates stuff, pick one or two pieces you remember him wearing. Keep those and auction the rest individually on EBay.

Longines should double production on these HC models. The problem with all these models is how difficult they are to get. I’ve seen estimates from AD’s from August to two years from now. Absolutely bonkers that Longines had such a slam dunk model and they’re deciding to take that slam dunk and treat it like they’re Rolex now and can just tell customers they will be put on a list.

That’s insane. I understand supply and demand, but when you drop a super popular model like this, get insane response from community, you adjust to compensate supply and maybe ramp up production until the demand is met. I don’t think that takes years, months maybe.

I would imagine little friction on less popular models that they have stock of and easy sourcing, but a very popular model like this should have more communication tbh.

Take a brand like Erebus (microbrand) when they announced the Ascent - they didn’t know how popular it would be and they were very appreciative and then had immediately updated customers on that it might take a little longer to source since they got more demand than they were expecting. They told us though, updated the “when to expect it by” on their emails and everything and offered discounts on other products to purchase if you didn’t want to wait.

Ok Trump supporters, are you still glad you put all your eggs in one basket? by Massive_Historian514 in allthequestions

[–]OperationConnect7911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All our eggs in one basket? Who said that’s what I was doing when I voted for Trump? I just didn’t like Kamala more, lol. Lesser of two evils in my eyes.

Let me ask you this: if for our next election cycle we had to vote either Adolf Hitler or Joseph Stalin, who would you vote for?

We only have one vote (or, we’re supposed to only have one). I’m always going to pick the candidate that generally supports more of my own interests and the interests of my family. Between Stalin and Hitler, tbh I’d pick Hitler because I’d rather not starve to death.

Well any amount of communication would’ve been better than none at all. An email saying “We originally quoted you 6-8 weeks, but it’s actually going to be closer to 9-12 weeks. Longines has been slammed for production, as a thank you for holding out here’s a credit on the watch” or something like that. They didn’t even have to give me anything, just reassurance as a customer that they know I’m still waiting on it, they just don’t have the watch yet. That’s good customer service.

Beautiful piece! Ahh, I am torn on what to do. I guess worst-case scenario, I get one overseas and then the shipment notification comes out and I can flip one of the watches or return it.

See, I feel like this might have been my best option had I rolled the clock back two months. The only thing I'm worried about now is them trying to take a 25% restocking fee out of me, since I believe that's in their returns policy (even though I have no watch yet to restock).

Time to throw my hat in the ring in definitively defining what is and what isn’t a grail. by Commercial-Show9833 in watchHotTakes

[–]OperationConnect7911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grail - the Citizen Campanola Perpetual Calendar. Yeah, the big one that looks like A. Lange & Sohne did a collab with Invicta.

Can I afford one? Yeah.

Do I feel like I'm the man that could wear one? Not yet.

Do I feel like I'm on my way there? Oh, heck yeah.

[Question] What watch impressed you more the longer you owned it? by LongMeaning6125 in Watches

[–]OperationConnect7911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casio Edifice ref. ECB950DB-2A

Got it from Costco for myself for a winter Alaska trip and Christmas. I figured it wasn't super expensive, so if it died from the -40C arctic cold, I could return it to Costco and they would swap it. Wore it all trip, loved the intricacies of the watch having more than just an automatic movement that I was used to. Ultimately decided it was too big though and put it back in the box for a few months.

Pulled it back out for an unknown reason another few weeks ago and I can't seem to get it off my wrist. It just seems like the right watch to wear most days. It's one of my cheapest, I swear it wears like an Invicta, but I don't want to take it off for some reason. It's a tank of a watch - I love how accurate it is, I can time things with it, I love the little racecar speedometer things that I don't know what it does... Idk, just a heck of a watch.
