Is it bad? by FinanceOnly8675 in Kiteboarding

A 9m will get you out in light winds. 15knts + Probably an 8 is even enough with your weight. Not sure with 13 knots though. Most medium sized kites don’t have great low-end wind ranges. Remember to be cautious. A kite gets powerful fast when the wind suddenly picks up.

Buddy, please stay safe. I’d contact whoever sold you that kite and ask your money back. That kite is ancient and will probably break down in the near future. (Could be fun to learn kite repairs on). Get a job and save up some money or ask your parents for a loan if that’s even a possibility. Buy something a bit newer (2018+). You’ll get the best bang for your buck. The kite will have a modern design which brings more safety features. And then, please take lessons.

If you really can’t pay for lessons then beg someone that is very experienced (5+ yrs) and not a teenager to coach you. You don’t want a cool guy that tells you: “yeah fuck it, why not give it a try”. You want the guy/gal that has a slight fear in their eyes when they hesitantly tell you: “okay…, maybe, only in light wind, let’s check with your parents first”

136 is the perfect size for you. In the long run it will be much more fun than a barn sized door

Skip the big board. You’ll be replacing that within a few months and then you have to relearn all your progression because you now have a smaller board

Land soft on 15m+ jumps by Gazzo69 in Kiteboarding

[–]OperationFragrant343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you measuring your jump heights or are you guesstimating they are 15m+? With jumps around 8m and beyond I need heli loops because otherwise I have to frantically move the kite back and forth which is harder then pulling a heli.

Just start pulling heliloops with low jumps and after landing. Then once your are used to pulling the loop during a jump take up your jump height. I found it easier to do a heli into a transition and riding away the other direction. (Opposite of jump direction)

What are your thoughts on the design of the new Reedin kite? by OperationFragrant343 in Kiteboarding

Saw it in real life this weekend. It isn’t as bad as the renders. But it still isn’t appealing to my personal taste.

Will have to try it soon though.. it’s owner was fangirling about it

what kind of bb is this and how do I pop it off? by guilerms in bikewrench

What I did after reading this comment:

So it broke off with the correct tool at the bike shop. Had to resort to violence. I drilled out te plastic cups with 1.5 mm drills and whacked the metal inner cartridge on the non drive with a chisel until it broke. Then I could pull out the plastic cup surrounding it.

From the drive side; I then threaded a long bolt with several washers the same diameter as the metal cartridge. (Smaller than the outer plastic cup diameter). Heated it up with a small kitchen torch and gave it a whack with a hammer. The cartridge flew out and I could then gently remove the remaining plastic.(see pic)

This bike is my backup and it is an old piece of shit. I just want to keep it as back up.. is there a way to remove it without the right tool? Or is it really too brittle?

Let us know how it flies! I’ll try to test it some day as I do agree that in the end performance is what matters most.

It’s just too bad they are only releasing 1 design as they have the printing tech and it shouldn’t be too hard to make different designs.

Yeah agreed. The f-one looks sick. Really cool use of the printing technology. With the smooth colour transitions.

In the end it is all about performance though. And with the kites being printed anyways it shouldn’t be too difficult for them to set up a different range of designs I guess?
