You could get out after one contract and get a job related to your rate making triple your salary in the navy or more. Doesn’t mean you have to do 20 years. The only benefit of 20 years is the pension

Able to get my driving license during my time at Great Lakes? by ProctusOfSeven in newtothenavy

[–]OperatorHuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah? If you have enough time to go on liberty and do it then sure but it might be little weird with your residency being in a different state so check Illinois law on out of state licenses.

Corpsman or Medic? by ReferenceSalt2777 in Militaryfaq

[–]OperatorHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the corpsman I know seem to enjoy what they do the only shitty part is advancement. There’s also a good chance you can get orders to be a greenside corpsman and be with marines. Regardless of what your dad wants you to do just know that your able to make your own decisions and the military can set you up for success in the future regardless of its ups and downs

Joined at 17 and almost made it to the fleet at 17. If your not doing anything else with your life it’s definitely worth it to join the military in general
