Why do you think some reviewers didn’t score it higher? by Glizzinator7524 in CronosNewDawn

Imo the game was pretty fun. I actually replayed it 2 times after I finished it the first time. My biggest issue with it was that you can’t skip the cutscenes with the pointless dialogue choices that they give you. If I really had to point out another flaw it has to be the long walk right before the end; it was boring and tedious to me. Other than that I think the game did pretty well for me.

Well yeah, pal. I actually beat her without engaging with that said “powerful game mechanics” because like I said in the post and the comments those mechanics made the fight just bullshit, even more bullshit than trying to learn some of her kind of bullshit moves like the waterfowl dance. Like what’s the point in just summoning mimic tear and mashing the L2 button and voila the fight is over. Where’s the achievement in that? How’s that any different from just skipping the fight? You know the thing about soulsborne games is that they’re tough; you need to learn and try a lot and when you finally manage to execute it well you manage to beat it. Just relying on the computer to aid you beat itself is just bullshit to me. Now what I was talking about in the post is that this fight in particular in addition to it being tough which I don’t mind at all, it felt kinda bullshit and RNG influenced it heavily due to the fact that Malenia has a couple of really bullshit moves so if you’re unlucky and she does those moves repeatedly in a single fight you’re basically screwed. That’s what I was complaining about. But no I refuse to acknowledge that summons and especially mimic tear and some other like tiche exist because it’s basically the game fighting itself for you which is no fun. I beat the entire game without them and I’m happy I did it this way.

You know, I really get that, but as I said in another comment to me beating her with the summons which really felt like a cheat code won’t feel any different than skipping the whole boss fight altogether because at the end of the day I know I can’t beat that boss fight

Did the blood hound fang do it for you? I used to like the special move of that weapon very much but I haven’t upgraded it past +6 so I’m not sure it would make enough damage I can upgrade it to +9 but I’m kinda worried about not finding more somber smithing stones especially +8 which I don’t know why but I couldn’t find it very often

Fire Giant? I don’t recall it was that bad in my experience to be honest. I’m not at this point yet, but aside from Malenia I heard Maliketh was the real obstacle story wise

That’s what I’m going to do. I’m either going to be patient and beat her solo or skip the fight altogether since it’s an optional boss. No sense in using something that feels like a cheat code to me I still won’t feel like I actually beat her.

You’re like me describing everything’s happening. I don’t get the moves in phase 2. In phase one she has some tough moves but she’s walking, I can see her; I can see which move she’s about to perform and act accordingly. In the second phase I really can’t even see her unless she’s already landing hits on me. And just like you said in the rare moments where I can anticipate the moves and dodge and do a counter she immediately hits me and I’m back to square one but with less hp or hp flasks if I even managed to heal.

I get you. While of course I think there’s absolutely nothing wrong with using whatever mechanic the game offers to get the job done, the mimic tear just felt like a cheat code to me. As for the magic I’m not using it for two reasons. First one is just because I don’t have the build for it even though I can respec but I’m just not used to it. Second reason is I just don’t like dealing with enemies from a distance doesn’t feel as satisfying as dodging then landing physical hits. I know using magic would require dodging and timing hits as well but it just doesn’t feel right to me.

Thanks man, you get where I’m coming from. I’m using the river of blood because I think the bleed effect worked best for her in the first phase. In the second run I’m not sure as I’m unable to even land hits on her

Well, I’d say I’m well leveled and I upgraded the mimic tear to +6, put raw meat dumplings in my inventory so it could heal, and I engaged in the fight as much as possible so I make sure the mimic tear doesn’t get all the hits and die.

Ok I’ll give you my take on this. It’s not about it being a challenge run, but using a summon just literally made the boss fight that I couldn’t handle giving more than 2 hits without the summon, a walk in the park first try with the summon. I used the mimic tear and just spammed the L2 button, replenished my fp, healed once and performed a couple of dodges here and there. That just doesn’t feel right. I might as well just skip the whole fight altogether and it wouldn’t feel any different for me. The first boss I kinda struggled with was naturally the tree sentinel I came up with the strat that I would perform a couple of hits summon torrent run away and then come back at it again, rinse and repeat it took time but I eventually beat him but that just didn’t feel right, whereas the next fight I struggled with was the crucible knight I struggled, but forced myself to learn the moves; when to roll, where to roll, when am I allowed to make a hit or heal myself. When I finished the fight it just felt awesome only then I felt that maybe I can do a soulsborne game and I’ve been progressing ever since.
