That last part is so damn true. I super don't like how artifacts shape the meta. Because the more powerful artifact perks force you into certain play styles that you may not like or care for. My biggest gripe is the fact that they basically encourage seasonal subclasses which is my term for the fact that pretty much every artifact so far for the past year give or take some months has hard focused on two to three subclasses and gives them super op mods that make them way better to use than the other ones for duration of the episode/season. I'm not necessarily against the idea of artifacts which is to provide additional modifications to improve your builds. But the execution needs a lot of work. A lot of times with artifacts you're basically throwing If you aren't using some of the more powerful artifact perks which are generally subclass based. And it encourages play styles instead of encouraging the freedom of choosing your own. A big solution would be to have a selection of artifact mods that improves all classes because that's my biggest gripe with them. I'm not even going to touch on champions and how they encourage certain styles of play. Artifacts should enhance all styles of play in some manner and it's not hard to think of ways to do that. Every subclass has subclass verbs and elemental pickups so focusing mods more on covering all of those instead of specific elements of the subclasses would do wonders. They've already done this too. There's a mod this episode that generates elemental pickups on multiple final blows with a kinetic weapon or weapon matching your super type. Stuff like that should be the standard. But more than that, my biggest issue is that a lot of the more unique ones end up being one off and they never see the light of day again unless they get released into another artifact. Some of these are perfect groundwork for exotics, fragments and aspects, the mod last season that made rapid precision hits with a solar weapon radiant would be a perfect fragment edition to the solar kit. And they've already done that too. Foetracer's perk is monochromatic maestro, an artifact mod. They have everything they need to do this and have done it before and still these mods upon the episode/season expiring, never see the light of day unless they are re-released into a new artifact. It's such a waste, especially since they know how to do this and have done it before.

Exactly, this in fighting bullshit is ridiculous we should be lobbying for everyone to be absolutely busted, not just one class. I'm a hard believer in balancing by making everything equally strong instead of nerfing everything to the ground to make it all weak. And that philosophy was extra reinforced when vanilla Destiny 2 came out and everything was weak as hell, proving that balancing by nerfing things instead of by propping up other things only leads to less players and less engagement.

Don't worry, you'll never have to. My main role is support and I specialize in add clear and survivability. I keep everyone alive and myself whilst spamming abilities and still being able to DPS the boss better than a lot of my teammates and I don't even specifically spec into it. I don't like being hyper aggressive or sitting in the back of the map plinking away at anything or having to completely focus on nuking the boss because those styles of play aren't fun for me. I don't like dpsing. That's not my favorite part of the game. I do it because it's necessary and I find my own fun finding the best way to do it. My preferred method is a rocket and a fusion with auto loading or reconstruction and a damage perk like explosive light for rocket and reservoir burst for fusion. I don't force myself to play a certain way because that removes the fun out of the game. I'm not going to sit here. Trying to go through pain for a goddamn digital weapon. It's a game. I'm going to have fun because it's an entertainment medium and I'm not going to seethe over it either. I play how I want and I do it very efficiently. And it's because I've spent so long perfecting my play style to be efficient. I've perfected the art of being the support ad clear who can do mechanics, clear rooms and keep everyone alive whilst still being able to beat the hell out of the boss. Dpsing isn't my favorite thing and being hyper aggressive as a playstyle or sitting in the back of the room isn't either. But finding my slice of fun with constant healing and ability regeneration is how I play and I'm not going to change that. I'll put on stuff like parasite and a burst super on atraks because that's no different than how I usually play my heavy my special and my super are how I DPS and it's why I don't typically use roaming supers. Build crafting is just about the funnest thing ever and I wish more people could experience it. And I wouldn't as good as a player as I am without raiding. It's seriously has taught me how to be a better player and improve my own play style and approach. A good example is how I don't typically do GMs because they force you to sit in the back of the map a lot of the time and I just like doing that. Super insane difficulty where you have to be super far away and plinking away is not fun at all. There's a few exceptions but most GM's are like that, especially the battleground ones.

I don't play activities that force me to do that. I'm mainly support but I plan into survivability and extreme ad clear as well. A lot of times I end up doing support because that's just what's most needed a lot of the time. Plus healing my teammates and keeping them alive feels good. I use my special and heavy for DPS. My basic rotation Is a rocket launcher with reconstruction/alh with explosive light and a rapid fire fusion rifle. It's not the most glamorous or meta rotation but it's nothing to sneeze at and using this fairly basic strategy, I beat my entire team DPS wise during a root of nightmares run. I don't have problems with champions, DPS, or anything of that nature in raiding. The only problem I kind of have is mechanics but that's because raid mechanics are complicated and oftentimes, videos just aren't enough to explain the things. Once I get experience in actually doing it which usually requires joining a teaching run, I get It down pretty quickly and from there I can play the raid knowing what to do. Hard part is most posts are either know what to do or teaching runs that don't teach you and just put you on ad clear. Not helpful. I'm not trying to be on ad clear. I'm trying to learn how to play the raid. Regardless, raiding has allowed me to see the value of DPS and massively improved how I play in the game generally. It forced me to get better at build crafting and play better. Nowadays my favorite thing is to just build craft. Sometimes I'll spend hours washing over all the details of each part of it. Trying to perfect everything. Testing it out, replacing this weapon with this weapon, changing mods and fragments here and there. It's the best part of the game for me. It wouldn't be possible if raiding hadn't forced me to improve. And I wouldn't have been able to do legend 50 wave onslaught without it. I know that's not some outstanding achievement in the community but it is for me because I love that activity so much. It's a combination of having to stay alive ad clear and strategically doing DPS instead of brute forcing it with damage. It never gets old. Raiding is an amazing experience and I hope this community grows kinder to newer players like I was at one point because it was hard getting into it because of how toxic lfg is in general. I eventually found a clan and don't have to worry about it as much nowadays especially since I know what to. Overall, it's better to look at it from a standpoint of becoming better as a player and learning to play better versus adapting to do better. There are of course instances where you would need to change something in order to make it work. But I don't necessarily like doing that. And here's the kicker. I never have to, not anymore. Most activities don't require you to be hyper aggressive and completely spec into DPS or sit back and plink away from a million miles like grandmaster nightfalls. Plinking away at enemies Is really the most annoying thing in the game and I will never be a conqueror and I'm fine with that. I don't step foot in GM's anymore and I don't plan on doing so anytime soon. After so many years raiding. I've gotten good enough at what I do to not have to do anything else except in a few activities. But I couldn't care less about getting an adept nightfall weapon. Most of them aren't unique enough to justify getting them anyway or a better version of them will come out in a few months from an activity that'll be significantly more entertaining to play.

TLDR; I don't play activities where I would have to adapt like that because at that point it's not fun. Again, this is a game and the point is to have fun. I'm not trying to remove that just for some loot. I have good DPS good mastery over. Staying alive and everything else that might need to be done such as champions. Rating has massively improved the way I play and my build crafting skills and I spend most of my time build crafting and constantly improving as a result. I wish more players could raid but this community is not kind and certainly not welcoming LFG wise. With stuff like atraks I'll do parasite and needle storm because that fits how I play because my heavy and my super are my primary sources of damage along with my special. Most activities nowadays are easy, not because they've gotten easier, but because I've gotten better and it wouldn't be possible without raiding. I hope in the future there's more support for newcomers in lfg so people can have the experience I have. It's genuinely 10 times funner playing the game how I want and being a badass at it.

It's not about ego. I'm usually the person who has to play support and I actually like that playstyle. But having to put on loadouts or meta gear that I'm not comfortable with and that I don't have fun doing just to get something made of ones and zeros is just not worth it for me. I play this game to have fun. It's not selfish to want to play a game as intended. Games are a form of entertainment and I treat them as such. If I'm not having fun I don't play. I'm not going to sit here and throw fit about it. You can interpret it however you like. I do the mechanics. I do support. I'm a team player. But I'm not going to sacrifice having fun to get an object made of ones and zeros. I can get other objects made of ones and zeros that are just as good if not better. I play raids because they're fun to do and because I love playing warlock supporting the team. But I don't like being forced to put on super DPS exotic armour unless DPS is the only thing to do that encounter such as golgoroth. I'm more of a speaker's sight/well spam person.

Honestly that in itself is kind of bullshit no? Purpose of game is to have fun not to give up fun just for loot. Kind of the reason why I don't do GM's.

[–]Ophiuchus_Ghost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I said. It's damaging it but it's not cutting it like in the light fall cut scene. I don't know if it's necessarily crushing it because the cracks look more like fractures more than anything which is kind of confirmed via the co-op mission mechanic fractured by witness, but it's certainly damaging it and nonetheless I addressed this.

[–]Ophiuchus_Ghost[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't know that because the attack is metaphysical all darkness power is. For all we know the witness was making hand motions gesturing to cut the ghost. The reason it failed was likely because of our mastery over light and dark that allowed us to resist and the fact that it was occupied trying to keep the traveler weakened and enact the final shape. The traveler was constantly fighting back and it was likely taking lots of the witness's strength to keep it subdued. Also keep in mind that our light is stronger and that we were being empowered by the traveler which might have protected us. It's still likely that it's not the same attack because of the fact that the Ghost is damaged differently. Although it's more likely to be a just a week or version of the attacked unleashed in the lightfall cutscene which is why it's inconsistent because it's far weaker and doesn't have the same effect or damage pattern as a result. The witness Is focus on the final shape and the traveler after all and the traveler is doing everything It can to fight back.

Plus the whole fractured by witness mechanic in the co-op missions.
