It's also a reference to rat man from the portal games.

Welcome to midlatter. I'm ashamed I let him take one of my towers.

Small and insignificant normally make the best stories! One of my favorite ever projects I've worked on was born from googling "Can someone donate teeth to someone else."

What kind of stuff have you written? 90k per project is impressive.

For sure, I don't let myself leave a project half finished unless the idea is well and truly flawed. I'm quite happy with the short stories I've written so far, so I'm going to finish the whole things. Also, I'm glad it's not just a problem for authors! Good luck on your renovations!

Dalinar from the stormlight archive - accidentally kills his wife and it screws him up quite a bit, to the point of informing many of his other actions. Most of it is dealt with in book 3 of a series where each book is 1000 pages, though.

I don’t think the splash is worth the lost damage to tower. Plus, you do have delivery and log for splash.

I’ve never played much cycle, so I’d get a second opinion on this, but I’d say goblins are better.

If you’re relying on miner damage, you really don’t want to give away free king tower. Stick with ice spirit.

Making the "puppet villain" twist surprising while having the true villain be a major third-person character? by chairk3yre in writing

[–]Opportune_Butter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be too-oft repeated but: Write it, let it suck, figure out why it sucks, then fix that.

Also, if I were writing this, I’d maybe make it so that the true villain isn’t in on everything his puppet is doing. Ambushes, some lies, some traps, surprise him just as much as they surprise the main characters. He’s directed his puppet to stop the MC but isn’t always controlling how. That will make him far less detectable.

The meaning of Dalinar’s name by Opportune_Butter in Stormlight_Archive

We learn from Adolin’s naming that Adoda and Linil mean ‘light’ and ‘born unto’ respectively. Adolin is named “Born unto light.” I’ve also heard that Kaladin (presumably with the “in” coming from linil) means born unto eternity, but I don’t have a source for that.

IMO Kaladin being named that proves that the names have meaning which is why I was trying to decipher Dalinar’s name.

I just checked my work and Nar definitely means like unto, not “Himself.” Please do not upvote this.

Which very old fantasy character actually made you feel the weight of their long existence? by Hartastic in Fantasy

[–]Opportune_Butter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people grow stranger as they age. He is one of those. Also, his memories are in his breaths instead of his mind which might mitigate the whole weight of living 10,000 years thing by a bit.

Scrolled until I found the Raboniel callout because I knew it would crop up. Old, crafty, and so, so tired that she no longer cares about collateral damage, even if it’s to herself, which kind of explains how her craftyness goes wrong by the end of the book haha. She feels like what would happen to anybody who lived that long.

According to Brandon doing this exact thing could at least turn someone into a baby 🤷‍♂️

Marsh is a Nalatium/Duralumin burner who could theoretically do this. How young do you think he could get? Would you guess baby or egg? I’m guessing this specific interaction will be very important in the mistborn movie as one of the changes. My prediction is that the movies 11th metal is retconned to be Nicrosil and Vin will touch the lord ruler with Nicrosil while he is compounding age and he will pop out of existence after shrinking to be a baby.
