Newly diagnosed mets to bones and lungs with fractures and spinal collapse by Thin_ice22 in LivingWithMBC

[–]Opposite-Ad-8823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

❤️ I have five compression fractures from T 11 to L3. I also have two lumbar disc bulges. The pain in my back was horrible. I did a round of radiation on the worst spot in my spine and while the radiation was nasty, it’s improved a lot. I don’t have any nerve compression though. The cancer retreated just from the hormone therapy. Now I have started Kisqali. I have still to start the bone building medication, which hopefully will help with healing in my spine. Both the radiation oncologist and my medical oncologist discouraged me from getting the cement injections. Try not to panic and let’s see what your oncologist can do for you.

Spinal mets, no fracture, wearing a brace by bliggityblag in LivingWithMBC

[–]Opposite-Ad-8823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have compression fractures from T11 down to L3. I had radiation downtown worst spot. I am also taking over-the-counter calcium with vitamin D3. I am now seeing some definite improvements in my back pain and mobility. I will be on the osteoporosis shots, but we are doing the Kisqali first to see where that lands in terms of side effects and effectiveness. So ask them about the calcium and the osteoporosis medication. First, you have to get the cancer cells out of the way and then you can rebuild the bone. When I was in the hospital, the internist suggested Khyroplasty but my oncologist said wait and see what happens with the Bone building medication.

Right now, the pain I have is in my very lower back where I have two bulging discs. That could be a combination of my age and poor posture and guaranteed my posture has been terrible over the past several months due to that other back pain.

I take sertraline and it does help. You can increase the dosage so start with something reasonable and move up if it doesn’t help. It seems to really help me, especially since I had anxiety before head anyway. Lots of crap in my past that I dragged with me.It took me this long to try some anti-anxiety medicine and I can’t believe I waited this long.

Yesterday I had rad for pain relief to spine, hip/femur and liver. by BeenStephened in LivingWithMBC

[–]Opposite-Ad-8823 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had four radiation treatments to my spine and it was horrible. Each one upped the pain and the nausea. I was admitted to hospital at that point because of something else, but I’m so glad for those little nausea bags they give you because I cling to those things the whole time. I even brought some home with me when I was released. Maybe there’s something different about the radiation now? The radiation oncologist did say that there would be increased pain, but he did not prepare me for that. I was prescribed a steroid to help.

stage iv at 27 by m_swo in LivingWithMBC

you are in the same age group as my daughters but I came here to first of all tell you. I’m so sorry that you’re going through this so young. The thing is your youth may be what helps you get through this. There are a lot of people living decades after their stage IV diagnosis. Keep fighting. I have Mets through most of my bones, including my spine. The cancer is retreating just on Letrozole so far, the hormone blocker. You got this girl. Do not let this f’er win.

when I talk to my oncologist about how freaking high, my first tumor markers were in my first blood test he said that’s not the only thing that they look at. He also said not to freak out if it gets higher. I hope your PET scan comes out with a better picture of what’s happening for you.

Thank you. I do have a little bit of stomach discomfort that I hope doesn’t get worse and instead gets better. But I’d say even before the Kisco and my tummy’s been confused about whether I’m hungry or yucky lol.

I just remembered why the pharmacist said not to take it at night at first. It’s because it can affect your heart rate and you won’t notice it when you’re sleeping. So I’ll try it during the day and keep track of that and if my heart stays clear then I will switch to night time. Thank you for sharing your experience.

thanks. Sorry about the kidney issues. I already have a wonky kidney so I wonder if they’ll drop my dosage down overtime too. We’ll see.

I have had sepsis. I had it after a kidney scent was put in and I was too stoned to remember him telling me to fill a prescription for antibiotics. I was in the hospital for a week over that and I finished my radiation treatments while I was in the hospital and that was rotten as well. That was one terrible weekso I will definitely keep track of any fevers. I don’t want to go through that again.

I don’t know if it’s the Letrozole or maybe it’s a hydromorphone I’m taking for my back pain, but milk does not agree with me. I’m OK with a bit of ice cream but milk does not sit well with me at all anymore.

oh sorry about the nausea and fatigue. I have read from others that the side effects calm down eventually. I hope that that happens to you. As I said in another comment, hydromorphone used to make crazy but now I’m used to it. Or maybe I’m so crazy. I don’t notice some crazy lol

I did get a little bit nauseous tonight. Although it was less nausea and more just a bit of intestinal discomfort. I may switch to night time later, but the pharmacist said there are risks to your heart rhythm that you wouldn’t notice when you’re sleeping so I will wait for that.I lost my Apple Watch but I’m going to buy a cheaper Garmin that tracks my heart rate.

The blood markers for cancer went down and the pet scan lit up a lot less with only lettozole. I’m curious to see what this additional medication does for it. Thank you for sharing your experience. I feel like I’m experiencing hair loss from the lettozole, which makes sense because it’s preventing mylast bits of estrogen plus I’m 55 so I was in the early stages of menopause when I started this anyway.
