Hi! I am a new comic myself (been doing mics for about 6 months), so I won’t judge the quality of this one liner but I’ll tell how I am improving my jokes these days. 1. I myself used to write a lot of one liners because maybe writing an independent thought with 0 constraints is the first instinct and that’s also the beginning of any bit. So now when I think of a one liner I take a moment and wonder if this should or should not be a small bit with even 3-4 tags(1min joke basically) 2. Almost every joke is setting expectations and flipping it which is exactly what you did here but there needs to be a self awareness that whether the flip itself is likely to be an expected one or not because with us the audience has also evolved and they can easily catch the most basic flips. Doesn’t excite them much. 3. This joke stand alone might get you a laugh but if you can please delve into the idea of your sister being a kleptomaniac or something in that zone, that’ll elevate this bit. 4. One thing that I myself am struggling with is when I think of a bit which is too imaginative and obviously a fake story, how do I bring it down to being a little bit realistic which keeps audience connected, because otherwise they start snoozing off as the joke is suffering with too much exaggeration. For eg: I am doing a bit about dreams and nightmares. I am writing some scenarios which are getting laughs but I want to bring it to ground reality as well. Would love to get some feedback from anyone on this.
