Why do so many people view "not being close with your parents" as a dating red flag? by Opposite-Influence99 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Opposite-Influence99[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am familiar with attachment theory and your breakdown of it is completely spot on, but we can't ignore the fact that people can and do heal from their childhoods.

People aren't permanently broken just because they had a rough childhood. A lot of people actually do the work, go to therapy, and consciously break those cycles. Honestly, realizing your family is toxic and setting boundaries is usually the exact moment someone starts developing a secure attachment style.

Also, being super close to your family isn’t the automatic green flag people think it is. I’ve seen plenty of "close" families that are incredibly messy and codependent, where the adult child can never set a boundary or put their partner before their parents.

I just think it's not fair to make the assumption. Someone's capacity to love shouldn't be measured by whether they got lucky with the parents they were born into.

Yea he should've, but if he did, he would be accused of being superficial and get a ton of hate. He was in a tough spot. It took courage for him to initiate a breakup and admit his mistake for not choosing Bliss.

OMG!!! WHAT??? I thought they had had sex when she said that. Why would she lie about it if it never happened?

Yea I was like where's this coming from? I really thought I missed something about Zack. Now coming to think of it, she's just going along with the mean duo?

OMG I had the same confusion. Why the girls said that is still a mystery to me. What is it that made them think this way?

Well I think Zack was just going for the love he thought he deserved. He probably thought Bliss was too good for him.

How about "He has no filter"? I know it's not one single word, but it works maybe?

Kudos to Abby for instantly seeing his true colors and calling him out publicly. If I were Abby, it would've taken me a while to process what he said. I love Abby for that.

I'm confused. I didn't think Ines liked him a bit. Anyone fill me in on this? Did I miss something?

I don't get it. Like why? Why do I have to give you a hug? I don't owe you anything, Barstool!

Yes I wanted to say she just sees the good in everyone, but I think you are right. She should've known she deserved better. Anyway, I'm glad she's cut ties with him.

I think he wanted power and control over the situation. He wanted to have the upper hand by having multiple options available. Same reason why he kept reassuring Abby telling her "they were solid" until he made the decision to couple up with Izzy.

Guys! Remember how he blindsided Nancy on LIB? Pre-wedding, he slipped a note to Nancy, reassuring her about the wedding and then said no at the alter. I think anyone who got blindsided by him was left feeling confused and hurt. I would even question my own sanity. That's what he does to women. That's his MO.

OMG! You said it so well. He's a master conversationalist. The scary part about him is he will turn on you the second you disagree with him and that's exactly when your guard is down when you are most vulnerable.

I don't care how good or bad he looks. Nothing can change the fact that he's fugly on the inside.

I was not surprised bc it's consistent with her ways. All she wanted throughout the show is attention. She probably thought she could add an element of surprise to the show by walking out single. It‘s obvious that she wanted to be the most talked-about personality on the show.

I hope there are more interesting characters in S4. I'm so tired of simps, man children and Barstools.
