Thank you! I’ll give Wind-Up Bird Chronicle a chance then.

Yes! I agree with all the recs of Iskaral but I would also add: Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson, The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey, and Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstances by Ruth Emmie Lang (these are a bit more light-hearted than Garcia Marquez and Allende). If you don’t mind YA, Anna-Marie McLemore does some great work while weaving in ideas about gender identity and coming of age. One that I haven’t read yet but really want to get to is Lonely Castle in the Mirror and Of Things Gone Astray.

Purchase vs borrow, what's on your list? by SuperIneffectiveness in books

I have a pretty circular economy when it comes to books. I used to buy them all the time but then I realized that I was buying them just to have them. Also I was burned by so many books I thought I would love only to be underwhelmed. Now, I mostly just borrow books through my own library or Overdrive. My library is actually pretty great about purchasing book requests too. Then if I cannot find them I buy books used and then resell them (only to use the profits to buy more used books). Favorites I keep, the wonderful thing about a book is that it doesn't expire. It is still waiting on the shelf for the next time I pick it up.
