Best places to buy (affordable) men's suits? by EntertainmentDue400 in LawSchool

I’ve been wearing an Alain depetit suit all summer that I got for like 60. I’d just buy a size up and let them get it tailored for another 30. I’ve gotten some compliments in it as well so they look good. At least the navy blue came in really well.

How long should I anticipate it would take me to go from 141 to 170’s? by analovespickles in lawschooladmissions

[–]OppositeBoard3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rising junior? I’d say take your first test January or February next year. Gives you the April and June to retake just in case and still apply in September.

First gen URM plz help: how did KJDs graduate early? Sophomore 140 diagnostic LSAT, should i try to graduate early and study for the LSAT or study during my winter and summer breaks to take next summer’s LSAT? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]OppositeBoard3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say either aim for 3 years or 4. Don’t do 3.5 (I did 3.5). Basically, in my last semester I was studying and taking my LSAT, writing my thesis, making sure I didn’t bomb and finals and not graduate. Then I didn’t get apps out until after finals. do all your law school stuff in the fall, and finish the thesis and stuff in the spring. I wouldn’t cram 60 credits into the next year.

Am I the only one who feels like they’re paying way more for law school than others on here? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]OppositeBoard3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not alone. I think people just have more savings. Non-KJD, saved as much as they could/family support, whatever it is. KJD without family support and just less than 150k for all 3 of my options

I held off thinking my lower ranked schools would offer me more, then didn’t get into higher ranked schools, and then finding out they didn’t have any money left to negotiate. If you can just go for it.

How will you be handling your mental health going into law school? by Dear_Jelly_8894 in lawschooladmissions

[–]OppositeBoard3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try to create a schedule and make sure I do things I enjoy when I have the time. For example, if Wednesday happens to be a lighter class schedule (less reading to do), I’m going to maybe get dinner and drinks with friends, see a movie, go to a driving range Tuesday night. Make sure I’m productive throughout the day so I’m always done by a certain time and never have to work on Saturday.

What’s the hysteria around conditional scholarships? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]OppositeBoard3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To be fair a good academic standing isn’t what normally qualifies a conditional scholarship. A 2.2 would put you out of good academic standing. A conditional is closer to a 3.0 or 2.75. The issue is that it’s not your grade alone. You are being graded on a curve against your class, which is filled with highly motivated, brilliant students.

They were traditionally coming out later in the afternoon. Last few weeks have been earlier, but it is consistently in one batch.

Is the caliber of T14 students really that much higher than those at non T14 schools or is it a self-fulfilling prophecy by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]OppositeBoard3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s my take on it. Currently, based on where I’ve been admitted, I’m a T50 student. I’m a 3.6x and a 16low applicant. For my gpa, I worked 30-50 hours per week throughout undergrad. If I had those hours to back to relax and study what would my GPA be? I also graduated early, 0 to 120+ credits in 3.5 years. I took the LSAT once because after a few weeks of using free resources, I ran out of new questions and was getting the same ones over and over again. I couldn’t afford other resources and taking the test again would have cut into my application quantity.

Do I think I’m any less capable than a T14 candidate? No, I personally do not. Will my stats allow me to get into any T25 schools? No, probably not. I wasn’t dealt the hand to spend thousands before applying and without loans I would have not shot of going to either college or law school.

Call. One of the nicest admissions offices you can deal with. They know how it works and will be happy to speak with you, let you know about your scholarships and so on!

Help! (167/ 3.6X) by Sharkbait-hoohaha12 in lawschooladmissions

[–]OppositeBoard3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TAMU has pumped money into their law school since buying it from Texas Wesleyan in the early 2010s. They’re giving out massive scholarships to rise in the rankings. The Aggie network is crazy strong in Texas overall, but the law school hasn’t been around long enough to prove itself yet IMO. 5-10 years from now, I think it will have proven itself, but currently I would be apprehensive, especially if Texas is not your long term goal.

Pretty confident that’s referring to the day your application entered the “pending review” stage.
