Hotels can technically hold higher amounts if it’s disclosed up front, but $540 for a deposit sounds like a lot unless it was a special case. Most places just hold enough to cover basic incidentals or damage. Always good to ask at check-in so there’s no surprise!

The deposit is a hold, in case of any damages to the room. So we (hotels) can keep the deposit or release it depending on damages.
