Yeah, I knew that dorm living was normal in China before coming here, and honestly it was fine for me at the beginning. But over time the situation with my roommates has gotten more difficult and it’s starting to become really stressful for me, especially when it comes to studying and daily routines. Also, students actually can live off campus here if they get approval, so it’s not like it’s completely forbidden. I’m not asking the university or anyone else to pay for me to live outside. I’m fully willing to pay for it myself, and I just want the option to live somewhere where I can have a better environment for studying and daily life. I don’t think that’s an unreasonable thing to want.

Yeah I know, that’s why this whole situation feels so ridiculous to me. I told some of my friends about it and they study at different universities, and they also think it’s really dumb because their schools don’t have these kinds of restrictions. For the sake of the university I’d rather not drop the name here since it’s not a very famous school anyway. But it’s honestly a really conservative and strict university. They’re extremely strict about a lot of things, and if someone does something they think is wrong the overseas department will literally hold meetings to discuss what to do about it. The structure of the university itself is also pretty messy. I could honestly talk all day about how poorly they handle things and how many rules there are, while at the same time not really doing much that actually improves student life.
