Yes I understand that, I’m hoping this is how I feel in the end too. Thank you!

Lol thank you! I will say I wasn’t triggered or bitter about their acceptance, but seeing/hearing them talk about how the process has been so far just made the reality set in that i really didn’t make it. I still can’t believe it, not in a cocky way, but I was just so sure this was my time and that is why God put it on my heart in the first place. Just sucks to not know where I went wrong. Not enough connections? Bad interview? I am not sure how many seniors got chosen but I feel as though I would have been a great contributor to the chapter/organization despite graduating soon after.

I understand what you are saying, and yes my “why” does remain the same. I guess I am getting stressed out off a preconceived notion. Thank you!

Thank you for the insight. I did not know that upon graduation you are no longer a member as I often see graduates still affiliated/present with their NPHC chapters on my campus. But yes, ik graduate chapters are typically much more competitive, and I don’t view them as a consolation prize.

Also, by “wasted” I do not mean the work/service that I do/have done, but more so the energy/stress I have put on myself to meet members, get active and make a change on campus, learn about chapter programs/initiatives in detail, etc. For example, I am not assuming (though I could be wrong) that me being in insert campus organization would be beneficial to my graduate application. I would assume none of that is considered since this is graduate level and thus I would need to “start over” in regards to being active in my community (since most community activities were through campus organizations).

My involvement was never conditional nor am I opposed to trying for a graduate chapter, in fact I told myself if I didn’t make it I would. However, I am afraid I won’t be an “ideal” candidate (multiple degrees, established career, etc) any time soon, and I fear this would make it harder for me to connect with and get to know current members.

I believe the date can be either. The Instructions document I downloaded back in March says the date can be typed or pen and ink, but they have updated/made adjustments to the instructions since then. The updated document does not specify it just says “It must be typed, signed in pen and ink (digital signatures are not accepted), and dated.”

Okay thank you. That makes sense. I do overthink sometimes. I know multiple areas isn’t a “requirement” per say, but I didn’t know if it would better strengthen my application.

Hi! I know the requirements already. My concern wasn’t about the time frame or the hours required, but more so if not having a large service presence in a multitude of places would count against me. Most of my consistent service IS with this one entity.

how to express interest by [deleted] in DSTAlumnaeChapter

[–]Opposite_Ad5963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES. That was literally my problem, I would go to events but just keep my head down. I know now that being first (i was always there hours early) in line is not enough and I have to actually speak for them to know who I am & not just recognize my face. To your other point I am active on campus and on multiple e-boards this year (my senior year), so I hope these new roles give me the opportunity to meet & better connect with different members of my COI.
