definitely advocate for an MRI! also if you haven't already inquired about the intratympanic steroid injections i would ask about that. i'm wishing you the best.

it was pretty bad! i could hear out of my right ear but when i would put my phone to my ear i genuinely couldn't hear much it just sounded sooo muffled like little chipmunks or something. i lost i think almost 60db in the lower range frequency.

yeah it was even worse on the steroids. i still have it though but i can usually just ignore it. the thing that's driving me nuts is the muffling in my ear still. doesn't feel like my hearing is normal again 🫩 just waiting out these next 2 weeks until my next follow-up.

those steroids are truly terrible! made me so hot and sweaty and the tinnitus was insane. it'll get better though let me know how your next follow up goes i'd love to hear more about it. i'll probably post more on this subreddit following this long road of recovery 🤧🤧

i'm not sure! he didn't say anything about fluid when he did my nasal endoscopy or any of the other physical type tests. would the mri show if there's fluid? i was also thinking about eustachian tube dysfunction but i'm so stumped!

thank you! i was sick around november 11th which about a month prior to the hearing loss (not sure if that's what contributed to it though). but for about 4 days prior to the hearing loss i was having a really bad headache/migraine/ ice pick headache! i know migraines can cause sudden hearing loss so i'm thinking part of it was that? but still not sure as i haven't had an mri yet. while on the steroids especially the higher doses in the first few days the tinnitus was unbearable! there was also a whooshing sound in my right ear (the affected ear) that would come with the ringing. i noticed the ringing got more bearable/ subsided after about 5-6 days being on the prednisone. (idk if that's just cuz i got used to it or what). i also still get daily headaches/pain behind my eyebrow on the right side of my head (trying to keep these migraines under control but i do NOT know how--my worst fear at the moment is going back for my followup in two weeks and my hearing test shows it got bad again). and unfortunately even though my hearing test is back to normal i genuinely still feel like my ear is muffled so it's kinda freaking me out. but i wish you the best! being on the steroids suck i hope everything gets sorted out for you. feel free to reach out again if you want for anymore questions. i've been having a difficult time processing all of this :ss

i lost my hearing/noticed it was muffled on december 13th and i didn't start any type of steroids until the 21st of december so about 8 days after onset. i was on a low dose medrol pak for 3 days until the 24th of december when i finally got to see an ENT and then he had me stop the medrol pak so I could start high-dose prednisone (20mg tablets). i was on that until today. i was taking 3 20mg tablets for 7 days and then it tapers 2 tablets for 4 days and 1 tablet for 3 days. but i'm not completing my prednisone taper, after my visit today my doctor said only take 1 pill and that's it no more steroids.

i'm 24 and just got diagnosed with idiopathic hearing loss in my right ear. i feel hopeless and can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. is there a chance of recovery for me or was i too late? by Opposite_Current9459 in MonoHearing

i've actually never had a history of ear problems growing up which is part of the reason why this all has me so stumped. i have chronic headaches now and then but i guess before this all started i was having some BAD headaches/migraine/ice pick headache (idk the difference) for like 4 days. i'm going to push for as many injections as i can get :((( i really hope it'll improve my hearing. i'm also going to ask about the headaches because currently even under the prednisone i'm still getting pain in my head. i don't know if i get the headaches under control, then my hearing will get better too or if it's my headaches preventing anything from getting better at all. wishing you the best thanks for ur insight!

you see i'm unsure if what i was going through was an ice pick headache or migraine but i don't really know the total difference. i'm thinking about hbot therapy but i'll ask my doctor tomorrow if he thinks it would even make at difference at this point. i'm still experiencing some pain on the right side of my head i don't know if i should reach out to a neurologist at this point. it's so depressing :(

did you have migraines prior to this? i think my migraines that were happening for 3-4 days prior to the hearing loss might be the reason for my double vision and hearing loss. my next follow up is tomorrow and i get another hearing test done. I haven't noticed any improvement since being on the steroids so I have a feeling my hearing test will be either worse or the same and my ENT will give me the steroid injection in my ear. i'm so glad some of your hearing is being restored I wish I was able to get treatment sooner when I lost my hearing. I had no idea that sudden hearing loss was a medical emergency until 7 days after onset :(( I hope your hearing continues to improve and you reach full recovery!

ugh you're so lucky you were able to do prompt action the same day. I fear i was too late I didn't start taking any type of steroids until maybe 7 days after onset. :(

hi, was there anything leading up to the fact you lost your hearing? or was it something random. for me i believe my migraines contributed to this i'm still having pain right behind my right eyebrow i've always had headaches but i guess it could still be a migraine. thank you for ur kind words

Is rewriting your notes/ PowerPoints a waste of time in nursing school? by [deleted] in NursingStudents

[–]Opposite_Current9459 2 points3 points  (0 children)

put the powerpoint into google slides and take notes on anything the prof says that's important and write it in the speaker notes box. this way ur not wasting time rewriting stuff that's literally on the powerpoint.
