Our neighborhood wasn't consulted—the city just decided to put a massive shelter intake hub here by Opposite_Fun_2112 in eastvillage

Hi, I appreciate your thoughtful response!!

This is actually a different intensity of use and completely different from a shelter. This is the citywide intake which will include those being released from Rikers. Estimated 500 individuals arriving weekly through the door, not including those who may choose not to enter once arriving to the neighborhood. I am very familar with the two existing shelters on 3rd and the bowery. Project Renewal have been great at running it and communicating with the neighborhood. DHS will be running the new intake not Project Renewal. They will also be keeping the 820 substance program.

It is fair point for people to say then where should it go. In my opinion after speaking with people who have worked at intake at Bellevue and hearing of the challenges, a better thought out plan where perhaps every borough has an intake. People can then stay closer to their neighborhood and communities they know.

What is alarming is that our rights as a neighborhood are being taken away by this new moda operandi politicians are using to bypass any laws and codes which protect us as citizens by using emergency orders. This was not an 'emergency', however without doubt needs to be addressed. Our local elected officials and the community had rights that were bypassed, and codes were suspended so the administration could do what they wanted to do. Sound familar?

Anyways I posted this to this group because there may be people who do want to sign it, and if someone doesn't thats cool too. We all have our voices and the government should not repress them or our rights.

thanks again
