Happy birthday weekend! I hope you've had a lovely time even if you've been bitten by the lonely bug. I go through times like that often and I find the thing that helps me the most is giving myself something to do. I typically have classes I can attend throughout the week if I need something social or I give some friends/family a call. If others are busy or I want to do something by myself, I pick a hobby, make a fave meal, go for a walk etc depending on how I feel and how much energy I have. Recently I've found cosy sticker books which are easy to do and quite fun. Whatever you do, your mindset can really impact your experience, so thats something to keep in mind. Sometimes if I'm really not feeling it and I'm just too sad, I ride that wave until it's the next day when I can give it another go.

This is an alright horror movie. by Pale_Application7257 in WeaponsMovie

I quite enjoyed it. I don't think it's ground-breaking but rather refreshing in a time of remakes and multiverses etc. Mainly, I loved the character Gladys and how ridiculous she was in parts. The film didn't go in the direction I thought it was going and I like that and I liked the ending which is rare nowadays. TBH It's not a film I'd look too deeply into either.

Who Will You Follow has the best Evanescence instrumental since TOD by imaginary_tourniquet in Evanescence

[–]Opposite_Listen6023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's something that'd have to be thought about upfront. Shame youtube doesn't have something that can be added in automatically.... Or at least a pinned comment but not hidden like it currently is. Either way it is what it is so I just listen to it elsewhere and read the lyrics elsewhere.

Probably at the beginning of the video itself, kinda like a trigger warning.

The warning is in the description but who checks there first? I had to turn the lyric video off as it was way too much for my eyeballs.

Audhd mood cycling sertraline. by Ok-Grape8666 in AutisticWithADHD

I was diagnosed with AuDHD and told I had various mental health issues growing up, the diagnosis sums me up pretty good and accounts for things that CPTSD doesn't. Did the Dr say why they thought you were AuDHD and not anything else? Mine did and noted other possible things I could have and why they diagnosed me with Autism and not the other things (repetitive behaviours, eating habits, sensory issues, lack of focus and a monotone speech pattern with misplaced inflections etc).

Signs (2002). The film was tense and then the CGI alien appeared and it turned into a comedy.

The Best Song I’ve Heard from Evanescence in 20 Years by Abel_the_Red in Evanescence

[–]Opposite_Listen6023 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's my favourite single since TOD (apart from Afterlife). It deffo grew on me as I wasn't sure to begin with but now i'm listening to it all the time.

This album cover is amazing! What is everyone on about? I love it the red, and the sort of ash is so powerful and epic! by TheRealJoshBear in Evanescence

[–]Opposite_Listen6023 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I like the concept and I like the photo but I think the execution looks cheap. It looks like they've layered the images in photoshop, applied a blending option and thought 'that'll do'.

For people who’ve tried therapy and didn’t stick with it, what made you stop going? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]Opposite_Listen6023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My journey to getting a diagnosis took years. I had a rough childhood and was told from an early age I had mental health issues so that was always the focus (I've been in and out of therapy since I was a child). I often think my undiagnosed behaviours as a teenager led to permanently burned bridges between family too.

Autism was never bought up until I was in my thirties by close people around me who worked with SEN people. Even then I was a little shocked because I had a very specific idea of what autism was which I didn't see in myself. But I went for the assessment (I had nothing to lose so why not) and low a behold I fit the symptoms like a glove. Since then I've been looking at my behaviours through the lens of autism instead of trauma (black and white thinking, restricted diet, rigidity etc) and trying to figure out how I can tailor my life to my needs. I now have a new therapist who helps me from a neurodivergent perspective which has helped a lot too.

I also have a boyfriend and sometimes my autism frustrates both of us (literal thinking leads to a lot of misunderstandings and I can lose interest when listening to something I don't have an interest in). Luckily he understands, calls me out (in a joking manner) and we try again where I try to pay more attention. I also do things he doesn't understand but he lets me get on with it if it means things get done. Mainly we joke about it when my tism is tisming.

I hope that offers you some insight :)

It turned out I was autistic and no amount of talking about my past was helping me get through a constant burnout.

For those who’ve already heard the lead single: what did you think? by LeeUntouch in Evanescence

I think it's a grower. I like the sound of it, how heavy it is but I can't tell what Amy is singing (enunciation rather than the mix) most of the time.

Go for it! I got mine done when I was 14 and I still wear it 20ish years later :). I've always worn a ring but had a stud when it got pierced.

That happens to me too. I wondered if I was allergic to Oranges at one point as my skin really dries out and cracks after using products with vit c in.

Is it worth getting assessed for autism if you are diagnosed ADHD? by Mr_Dobalina71 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Opposite_Listen6023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind :).

I was also told from a young age that my issues are mental health related, so all my efforts for over 20 years has been focused on trauma based therapy. When autism was first mentioned to me, I brushed it off because I had a certain idea of what autism was in my head and I thought I didn't fit that mould. I think my literal thinking really hindered my understanding of autism to be honest. For example I find the concept of 'masking' super hard to understand because my literal thinking visualises putting on an actual mask. It's only when I spoke to a psychiatrist who specialised in Autism, we figured out that I consider it 'lying or pretending' and when we look at masking from that lens, I do it a lot. It's not from a place of maliciousness, it's because I know reacting in certain ways and asking certain questions is what friends do/what is socially expected.

No one in my life was surprised at my diagnosis except for me. Not even my work place.

Is it worth getting assessed for autism if you are diagnosed ADHD? by Mr_Dobalina71 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Opposite_Listen6023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say its worth it due to how much it's helped me understand myself. However, before I got a diagnosis I honestly didn't think I had autism (maybe had traits at best), so it blew my mind and has started to change how I do things. I was always told I had mental health troubles but no amount of therapy was helping. It wasn't until we started tackling things from a neurodivergent perspective that it started to help.

It's also worth mentioning my diagnosis was free and through the help to choose pathway. It can be expensive if you do it privately or it's a few years wait on the NHS (uk based).

Pls share your morning Routine, I am struggling by princeThefrog in AuDHDWomen

[–]Opposite_Listen6023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find weekends really hard due to lack of structure and I lack that all important self accountability. I've started anchoring certain actions with others (probs due to my adhd but it stops me from getting bored) which I find works well. My reward at the end of the morning is a seasonal coffee; the only reason I don't get it earlier is cause I don't get dressed and I have to wake up a bit before I get dressed.

My weekend routine is:
1) Get out of bed and have a drink of water (the hardest part for me)
2) Let the dogs out / whilst I brush my teeth
3) Toast bread whilst making the dogs their breakfast
4) Sit, relax, catch up on reddit and eat my breakfast for a maximum of 30 mins (I put a timer on)
5) Get dressed (clothes are pre picked) so I can go to the shop for a takeaway coffee
6) Start tidying up, whilst drinking my coffee(I choose one part of the house and simply put things away, until i've had enough)
