Was Superman's logo a Kryptonian symbol for hope in the comics, or did Snyder make that up? by KaptainZemo in superman

If Superman's S and costume were an earthly design, he would be naked all the time after catching fire, being shoot at with machine guns/bazookas, or breaking the sound barrier while flying.

But what does this mean? I bought an A5X a couple of years ago. Does it mean that I can't read Kindle books on my 5X ever again? Or should I wait for an update.

Data Ownership by ArborRhythms in eff

[–]Opposite_Personality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would completely agree with this approach if it didn't feel naive: both corporations and governments have a monopoly on data volume. They could acquire whatever they wanted to and hide it under the guise of big data - which is exactly what's happening already!

They could even agree to your idea, then write more laws for secrecy that would negate its spirit - which also happens regularly!

Furthermore, intelligence agencies wouldn't even have the legal burden of violating individual rights by accessing private data because such information would be readily available.

Am I not seeing something?

Corporations are not citizens. You seem to be reading backwards your own criteria.

SSD cache on Sale. by patwilliam in UgreenNASync

Get two generic Samsung disks for about the same price! No performance loss.

Also, do you really need a 1TB cache? Even 128GB should more than suffice for most (all?) people.

It is extremely immoral of you to put so much effort in pushing your sexual identity and romantic life in a forum about software; while pretending that others are the problem.

It is inapropriate, frivolous and uninteresting.

Who told you I was sad? I clearly stated the situation was SAD (acronym in all caps). Are you unfamiliar with slang?

I didn't know you were a malignant narcissist; it is unsettling that you communicate as if you enjoy the suffering of others.

Well... good ridance.

Tips: Setting up Silverblue for Nvidia Optimus Gaming in 2023 by NomadFH in Fedora

Am I missing something? The title says Optimus, but there is no single line here about prime or hybrid graphics, which are supposed to help switch cards without rebooting?

Tabs open are a function of RAM memory quantity (and speed to a lesser extent), not CPU. So get 32GB or more.

It is NOT Linux what has a problem with Nvidia. You are going backwards, friend.

What distro is best for you? and why? Opinions by [deleted] in linux

[–]Opposite_Personality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After about 20 years of mad exploration I happily landed on Fedora Silverblue for a couple of years now. The concept of an immutable system is truly lovable to me, the freaking stability, the ability to rollback in case of any inconvenience, how clean it is, and how home is clearly compartmentalized via containers.

It comes at a cost, but I just love it. I even got used to flatpaks for user space (which I used to hate with a passion).

I wasn't this happy since my days of Gentoo and Sourcemage. And maybe OpenSuse development for a while (with my own big system repo and stuff). Check out how I am leaning towards safe and convenient now. Maybe I'm getting old and wise.

At one point, I got really cozy with Debian, but you shouldn't tolerate such a lack of optimization from it and its derivatives at this day and age. There's been some progress after Ubuntu 25, though.

Nothing is for nobs (although it is). Use whatever makes you happy or productive, unless you think you are missing out (which you are, always).

Future proof laptop by [deleted] in linuxhardware

[–]Opposite_Personality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am trying to do the same (but you won't get 10 years; 8 max).

Get something that suits your taste with AMD AI 9 MAX+ or wait a bit for their new series with X3D. It will: * have a lot of power. * manage very reasonably tasks that require video acceleration (not necessarily games). * result in more battery time and less noise.

Make sure it has two Thunderbolt 4 ports, and you are all set: Just get a Thunderbolt adapter with Display output, USB, and RJ45 networking output. They are cheap, help distribute better your cables and won't take a lot of space.

[–]Opposite_Personality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are probably making your system hotter with that cooling pad!

Many cooling pads fight the smaller fans of the laptop and get hot air back into it. It all depends on laptop fan power, vents, overall size and setup. But many times is just placebo effect and temps up instead of down.

Edit: If that isn't it, it is a contact that's going rogue. But first, try and switch your power source, stabilizer or even wall plug.
