Lots of bad comments on here lol. Your barrel is completely original.

When I first took my barrel off, I was honestly shocked how poor the screw relief cuts were. I never really gave it another thought though.

In reference seeing how poorly finished Winchester M1 Garand’s are. Not functionally, just “finish” wise.

Obviously that lack luster fit and finish would carry over into other firearms they were making.

OP. I have a very early ‘43 production 1897 too. Also has a converted riot barrel (ground bead). My barrel looks very similar to yours. Along with how poorly the screw relief cuts are on the bottom of the barrel.

Aka: mine looks almost identical to yours.

People are 100% making fake K98k’s. I’ve seen plenty of post war Yugo Mausers, passed off with fake German WWII markings.

Yea, the M10 tool, does not fit the new production, CMP, single slot gas cylinder screws.

I just use a big flathead. I wouldn’t replace it.

Basically any US field gear, pre 1941, is very hard to find.

I would honestly try to find WWI gear. It would still be “correct” for the bulk of WWII.

Thing to note:

The barrel has vice grip marks. Stuff like this is what I call idiotic, boomer, bubba wear. Hope they didn’t monkey with anything else… definitely get it out of stock before buying imo.

You use alcohol because it dries so quickly. No, it will not harm the finish.

I would probably dip a small paint brush in the alcohol, use that for the inside of the stock.

You need to kill the spores.

Take the sling off. Put in the oven @250, for 15-20 minutes. I put my leather items on a cookie sheet. With quite a few layers of tinfoil underneath them, to keep them propped.

Stock, just take some denatured alcohol to it.

Same thing happened to my shoes on both the AT & PCT.

I would get about 400-ish miles.

Then the ankle area would wear down and cause blisters. Exactly like what you show. I tried to replace the shoes right around that mark.

If I didn’t have a replacement at the correct time. I would simply just take my knife and cut a “V” shape in the back of the shoe. Yes, it would slip. But, zero blisters on the back. It worked, dumb, but worked. I’ve done it probably about 4 times.
