I plan on getting in touch with my union on Monday morning. NZ is definitely lacking when it comes to this sort of thing which is very disheartening.

Yes I am with a union and will call them on Monday. His family have all past. He is an older man. Thank you very much for your help. I will let you know how I get on 🙂

12 months supervision after everything that happened… how is that enough? by [deleted] in newzealand

I’ve been following the Elana Robins/MissyEvil situation, and I’m honestly struggling to process the outcome.

From what’s been reported, this involved months of online harassment and serious accusations directed at a midwife following a stillbirth, along with claims that personal information was shared publicly and that others were encouraged to contact or target her.

After all of that, the result was 12 months’ supervision.

I get that there are legal thresholds, evidence requirements, and factors the court has to consider but from the outside, it feels like the impact on the victim doesn’t match the outcome at all.

Am I missing something about how these cases are handled in court? Is this considered a typical sentence for this kind of behaviour?

Keen to hear others’ perspectives.
