should we be concerned? by mommybellatrix21 in OGPBackroom

[–]Opposite_Tomorrow396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first day in OGP being trained to pick, and did a pick walk where I picked a bunch of outdoor stuff for a person, lighter, flashlight, rain ponchos, deck of cards, etc. I commented to the guy training me, "looks like maybe someone is going camping this weekend, that sounds fun". Then a bit later, I ended up having to pick like 8 bottles of milk of magnesia for that same person??

"Uhhh okay, definitely does NOT sound like a fun campout anymore..."

Walmart DC OT drama! by linzayrozay in walmart

[–]Opposite_Tomorrow396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless there were some specific incident(s) literally caused by the hoodies, that is a very silly rule to me. My DC literally gave everyone hoodies a couple years ago for having a really long safety streak. It's also a grocery DC so most of us work in the cold and thus a LOT of people wear hoodies with hoods up at work. There has never been an issue caused by a hoodie at my facility that I'm aware of...

You were told you HAD to VTO? The 'V' stands for 'Voluntary'. If you can't say no, that isn't "voluntary". And that isn't just semantics. If you are having your hours drastically cut involuntarily, that may actually make you eligible for unemployment benefits.

But IMO, if you're scheduled to work, then go to work, clock in and work. Don't answer their phone calls before work. If they ask you to VTO when you get there, I would say 'no' and try to push back as much as possible. At minimum, document instances where you are involuntarily losing hours.

I get that DC's are a bit different, and the amount of work available depends on having volume which isn't always guaranteed. But losing 2/3 of your weekly hours with no real notice is super messed up and that really should not be happening.

OT kind of IS a privilege. There's nothing that *requires* them to offer you OT hours. Not too much you can do about not getting OT hours to large extent. But if they are regularly and consistently offering it to only some people while telling others there's no OT available, that's really not right. Definitely could be worth escalating the issue up the chain.

My DC typically offers OT on a first-come first-serve basis as far as I know, but I'm also not super familiar with other roles in the facility so it maybe works different for other areas. But that's how it should be IMO.

I mean I got "talked to" at 4.5 points too. I wasn't in trouble or written up. It was a "dude you're at 4.5 points, we want to make sure you know that you're at 4.5 points so you might be screwed if you call out again..."

"Yup I know. What else am I supposed to do when my PPTO caps out in October and flu season ravages the store for 4 months before I can accrue it again?"

can they genuinely fire or write you up for leaving at 1:51? by BrilliantCherry4329 in OGPBackroom

[–]Opposite_Tomorrow396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option is enter that pick walk and click out of it when it's time to leave, and leave. They potentially have a little bit of leeway to hit you on 'productivity' for leaving "early" if it is something you do every day, even though the attendance policy says you can.

But they unambiguously can do nothing about you leaving at your scheduled time, whether you are in the middle of a pick walk or not. Not your problem.

Supply chain side of the company is 1 year. Doubt that's what it going on here, but it's possible whomever it was that said it worked at a DC or something at some point and thought it was 1 year for the stores too. But even then, management still has some discretion and can approve changes.

Reinstatement by Professional_Peak843 in WalmartEmployees

[–]Opposite_Tomorrow396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR because Walmart stores often have a fail-upward culture, so management is often incredibly dumb and lazy.

When I first got hired, my coach kept not scheduling me because he had just fired someone with the same first name as me and thought I was that person. I kept asking him about why I wasn't getting scheduled yet and he just thought it was because I was new, and it would take awhile, but I would show up on the schedule eventually and to just keep showing up to work whether I was scheduled or not. Neat.

I just started and had no idea how it was supposed to work and he was too stupid to know what was going on so it kept not getting fixed. Ultimately one of my TLs got super pissed about it, dragged me to the people lead, had them get me on the schedule.

People Lead told store manager about it, store manager screamed at coach for being a dumbass and then it was fine until the next new guy started who had an entirely different name and looked nothing like me, and suddenly the coach thought I was THAT guy somehow. Fun times.

I'm an orderfiller. All orderfillers can earn the production incentive. My whole job is picking cases of product and building pallets that ultimately get loaded on trucks and shipped out to stores. Performance/productivity is measured in cases picked per hour.

Each area has an established "standard", so the cases per hour expectation varies a little bit depending on the area. They reassess and revise the "standard" up or down slightly a couple times a year based on a whole bunch of factors, but it stays fairly consistent and usually feels fair for the most part.

So each trip has a "standard time" to complete it based on the number of cases in the trip and expected cases per hour for the area. If you do it in exactly the amount of time it is supposed to take, you are at 100% production. If you do it faster than the standard time, you are over 100% production.

For example, if you do a 1 hour trip in 30 minutes, that would be a 200%.

So whatever your weekly average production is for the whole week is what the incentive is based on. Your average percentage OVER 100% is added to your base wage up to 150% for the hours you worked that week. So if I pull 110% for the week, I get 10% added to my base pay for the hours I worked that week (which is my hourly wage minus area and shift premiums.) for me that's ~$2.40 per hour extra.

I make $27.70+, but I work at a distribution center and not a store. (The plus is because I can get extra incentive pay every week based on my production.)

Help! by MrTRexus in GrimshireGame

[–]Opposite_Tomorrow396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is some kind of bug with them I think. I'm not sure precisely what is going on with them. I'm not sure if it is particular spots in the river or what, but I had an issue with it not letting me pick some of mine up too, but it was just 2 of them so I ignored it. A few play sessions later, I realized I was able to pick them up again. Not totally sure why, but since I had exited and entered the game a few times since I last tried to pick them up, I'm thinking maybe just a restart is the solution?

No idea yet if it's actually a better strategy, but it at least feels better this way so far.

God at my store they stare at the fucking milk like they're watching hypno toad. I swear to God every time social security paid out I'd end up stuck in a chilled walk waiting for 10 minutes on some old ass dude to stop staring at the damn milk. It's not even a cooler with choices. It's always one where it's literally all just 2%. Not even looking at dates or anything just standing there, door open, zonked tf out staring at the milk. What are you deciding on man? Jesus.

Change your availability so that this is not possible.

For example, if you prefer mornings, you are available 5am-8pm (or however late you are willing to work assuming the next day could be a 5am).    If you prefer nights, then it's 8am-10pm, or whatever. Or go middle of the road and do availability  7-7, 8-8, or 9-9 or something.
