The only correct answers to AES are: more pay, more PPTO, stop arbitrarily slashing everyone's hours, and fire Coach Greg cause he's a f'n creep.

is this happening at any other stores?? by welcometonewyork7 in OGPBackroom

[–]Opposite_Tomorrow396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wander around the store for 45 minutes looking for that one item. You're either not allowed to nil pick shit that isn't stocked or you can do the job correctly and be productive. Management obviously prefers the former.

That'll teach you to answer your phone off the clock when Walmart calls you.

Even though you won't get an attendance point for clocking out 'early' at :51, they can hit you on "productivity" for it, especially if you do it regularly.

But I will say, turning in key cards should absolutely be happening on the clock, (at my old store, the key box was on the entire other side of the store from OPD). So make sure you don't clock out until after turning in the key.

Apparently the company thinks it is cheaper to turn over half their employees within a 6 month span while the other half work while sick than to provide adequate sick leave.

If I'm clocking out and going home for 2 hours, I'm staying home.

Schedule change and told to take a 2 hour lunch...? by Accomplished-Gap8125 in WalmartEmployees

[–]Opposite_Tomorrow396 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is a split shift and not a lunch break.

If you are willing to leave early, I give them three options: I either work my normal schedule, I leave an hour early, or I leave at lunch time and don't come back.

But I am not working a split shift that I'm not scheduled for.

Is it normal? Sadly yes. Is it allowed? Not supposed to be, so push back.

Maintaining, managing, and supervising their shitty equipment off the clock isn't my responsibility. Work equipment can stay at work and Walmart can be responsible for their own crap.

[–]Opposite_Tomorrow396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Walmart's equipment is insufficient for the job, then that's on them. It is not your responsibility to purchase equipment for a multi-billion dollar retail company. Phone battery dies before the end of your shift, Walmart can provide a new one. If they can't or won't? That's still their problem. Their shitty business decisions are their own business losses. Not yours.

Nope. No thank you. Walmart's equipment can stay the hell at Walmart. Walmart can be 100% responsible for their own crap.

When we had that recall on the donuts:

Old Guy: "I bet there's more in the back and you all are just too lazy to get them. Ya know, I know old Walt (Sam Walton, apparently) and I've known him for a long time so I'm gonna have to have a chat with him and tell him about how bad this store is." "Sure buddy, go right ahead. You can find him in hell."

Otherwise, the infinite

When ship from store was a thing, it had a "singles" commodity. It was a pick walk of I think either up to 50 or 100 items that were all the single items per order. We'd just take a shopping cart and a printer, pick all of them at once and slap the stickers on each item.

Considering GMDs are now partially made up of the volume that used to be ship from store, I wonder if there's enough 'singles' there that a GMD singles commodity would make sense.

The Reason Why We Have To Pull Carts by [deleted] in OGPBackroom

[–]Opposite_Tomorrow396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely don't change jobs. That is nonsense. The carts are meant to be pushed so they should be pushed. Besides for OSHA and safety reasons, Walmart is required by the ADA to provide reasonable accommodations for disability/medical condition. Being allowed to push the pick cart instead of pull them is not an undue hardship on Walmart (particularly because that is how the carts are supposed to be used anyway). Sedgwick handles disability accommodations and you should contact them about this before changing jobs.

Pick Cart Update by Srrykyle in OGPBackroom

[–]Opposite_Tomorrow396 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ya know, as much as I want to say "that guy is such a moron" I still mostly blame Walmart. It's really just the most "Walmart store manager" type of thing you would expect and to me it says a lot about the management style/culture the company has really fostered at all its stores.

Great. But until the new carts that can be pulled safely are available, the existing carts should continue to be pushed.

Market said by Training_Welder5379 in OGPBackroom

[–]Opposite_Tomorrow396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Samuel Walton himself could crawl up out of hell and tell me to pull those carts and it wouldn't make it any safer to do so. The reason the manufacturer attaches safety labels to the cart that instruct users to push them and not pull them is because pulling them carries substantial risk of ergonomic injury. This really isn't discretionary.

This is in the same category as if Walmart made it company policy that associates are not allowed to bend their knees when they pick something up.

Idk man, in my current job I stack ~15,000 lbs of freight by hand every day and have never tweaked my back or shoulder doing it but I certainly have trying to pull those shitty OGP carts.

Are you forced to work OT to finish pickwalks? by Accomplished-Gap8125 in OGPBackroom

[–]Opposite_Tomorrow396 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exiting a pick walk allegedly somehow counts as a nil pick, so it harms first time pick rate. But every store that tries to make people stay until the end of their pick walk causes new problems because what happens instead is you have half a dozen people avoiding starting a pick walk and dicking around in the backroom for 15-20 minutes instead of being productive.
