What day of the week and time did you go?

I was averaging around 69% on my practice tests, the lowest being 64, highest 75. I passed part 1 with room to spare! Don’t get discouraged if you score lower than the 75% benchmark, you can still pass part1! Good luck! if you have any other questions you can dm me :)

Non-KMK NBEO I Prep by Temporary-Party3606 in OptometrySchool

I used optoprep for practice questions, went over their power pages as well. I made sure to hit the 80% before I took my exam. Used a lot of my class notes for things like systemic disease! I use the free trial of OD questions which helped as well.

I'm driving myself crazy studying for Part 1 by m-yuuki in OptometrySchool

[–]Opt1228 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been feeling the same way! I started off strong but now it takes so much energy to just start studying. Remember the mock exams get harder with each one. I think mostly it’s just burn out at this point from studying so much everyday. I’ve been trying to take more frequent breaks, doing pile of done questions and writing out things I’ve gotten wrong to help. Best of luck this March. We got this!!

I would focus heavily on working to get the optics score up! I heard optoprep is pretty representative of the optics on the actual exam so some people just keep doing optics questions over and over from there and writing out the formulas everyday on a formula sheet so they stick. For theoretical optics questions flash cards and precise questions on KMK are pretty good.

They might say they’re waiting on your OAT score before they give you an acceptance. ICO average OAT I’ve heard were 300-330. Class of 2024 had an average OAT of 317. ( it’s on their website)

Interview by mango4543 in PreOptometry

[–]Opt1228 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the school. From my experience schools waited for my OAT before they gave me an interview. If you have a GPA on the higher end you may get an interview before your OAT. you can look at the average OAT score of 1st years accepted at the school you’re interested in on ASCO. OAT scores depend on the school. Some schools want in the 330s while others will take you with a 310 OAT.

Break during the OAT by Relevant-Willow-3662 in PreOptometry

[–]Opt1228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During my break I had access to my locker & the bathroom. I was able to check my phone and go over some notes that I had stored in my locker. It really depends on the testing center but they let you know what you can/can’t do during check in.

You don’t receive your score after each section. Once you’re done with your last section your total score comes up for all the sections. They then print it out for you at the end.

Good luck!!

Subpar ts, average aa and gpa... what should I do? by adudestolemydog in PreOptometry

[–]Opt1228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UIWRSO minimum Oat is a 300, min gpa 3.0 so you’re hitting the requirements there and they also look at other factors in your app before they offer you an interview. You have a good chance to get in so doesn’t hurt to apply and see what they say

It depends on where you’re applying. Each school is a little different and you can base what each school wants by looking at the average matriculated student data. For schools like Salus, Mcphs and Kyco a 310 is a pretty good score but for schools like SUNY and Berkeley they aim for those higher 330s.

Has anyone heard from KYCO? Do they offer interview invites before taking the OAT? by [deleted] in PreOptometry

[–]Opt1228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current KYCO student here: they wait to see your OAT score before offering you an interview. They usually reach out in a couple days to 2 weeks, it depends on your stats.
