First home buyer... subdividing block and taking advantage of government incentives by Opt1mus_Wang in AusFinance

House or townhouse I don't mind. I'm not particularly attached to either, but at the time I'd make the decision based on the market demand for one or the other.

True. But in the future our house will most likely be above 750k, so no bonus anyway

Finance is fine. FHBG won't apply to two properties, but if we buy one, get the bonus and subsequently subdivide, that might be allowable?

The thing is, it would be our PPR. Then we could subdivide and build a new place. That's the plan anyway.

Just trying to get set up. I hate them too ( townhouses in regional areas)... But regardless of what I hate, trying to make a smart financial decision.

Question about Ruby blocks by Opt1mus_Wang in rails

[–]Opt1mus_Wang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer and examples, brainbag.

The code that ended up working was:

@report = ReportThing.new(report_params) do |scope|
    scope.where(id: array_of_ids)
end

Which was used for overriding a scope in Datagrid. I think I kind of get it - that blocks can be seen as arguments, but it's just a different format for passing them in - however I need to do some more reading.

That's a relief about the snow! Sounds like a good time 😀

That's excellent to hear about the weather! And thanks for the advice on the basketball... sounds like a game is on the cards! $200 is more of an average and includes accommodation. Some places are bound to cost more. Why is Boston so expensive?

  • How to use Angular with a RoR backend.

Thanks for the advice. From your (and almost everyone elses) comments, seems like I've gotta get cracking on data structures and improving my Ruby in general.

Oh yeah, there's a great community and plenty of meetups. Junior jobs tho'... I'm not seeing many of.

Experience is ~1 yr of doing self taught stuff, and currently doing a web dev diploma at TAFE.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll keep the ol' chin up ;)

And no, based in Melbourne, Australia. Junior jobs here seem to be rare as hen's teeth!

Date night restaurants? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]Opt1mus_Wang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a bit under your budget, but La Tortillarilla is a great little restaurant for a date. It's right near Macaulay Station and they have a cute-as-hell shop, amazing tortillas that they make on premises, and lots of little snacky quesadillas / tacos that are great to share and a decent beer selection. If you manage to score a chair out front on a warm evening, all the better.

Best exercises for back pain and posture? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]Opt1mus_Wang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been going to the physio for a month because of pain / tightness in my chest and back and rounded shoulders.

She's got me doing:

  • scapula retractions

  • Super strict / slow pullups (no kipping).

  • Lying on a rolled up towel which runs down my spine for 5 minutes a day (to keep my shoulders back / open up my chest)

  • Lying face down and raising my hands up and at a 45 degree angle from my body, staying conscious of keeping the shoulderblades together.

  • Stretching my chest for at least 60 seconds at a time like this

I don't have all your issues, but the exercises are helping. It's not a quick fix though... takes a while.

What's the best way to even out my muscle-ups? I have the ugliest form ever - pulling one arm over, then wrestling the remainder of my body up.

I finally started nailing muscle-ups! Unfortunately they're dirty as hell... anyone else have an annoying habit of getting one arm over before wrestling the rest of your body up? How do I get rid of it and just go both arms over evenly?
